Overview

Hope believes she is above sexual temptation; that she would never break that commandment like her husband's previous wives had done. After all, she is a good Christian and a loving mother. She has no reason to stray . . . until her husband starts neglecting her needs and things begin to look hopeless. Though she clearly communicates her pain to her husband, he refuses to get help. She starts to wonder...Will she never have sex with her husband again? She soon learns that she, too, is capable of such betrayal when she succumbs to the unthinkable.

But things that first seemed sweet and reasonable given her painful situation soon produce a bitter taste when combined with the overwhelming guilt. No substitute will ever replace her love and desire for her husband. If only he would touch her like he used to. If only they could make love again. She misses him so much and wants to tell him the truth hoping it will propel him to do something to fix their problem, but she fears his rejection. Yet, she can't continue living such a hypocritical life. She knows it's wrong even though she continues to crave physical intimacy. Steeped in the quagmire of adultery, Hope must find her way back to solid ground to save her marriage. But will she lose everyone she loves in the process?

    Sutton's best

NEVER WITHOUT HOPE by Michelle Sutton is anything but the typical Christian romance. This is the story of one woman's decent into an illicit love affair, despite the fact that she loves her husband and is a professing Christian. Hope is a passionate woman, and when her husband begins to pull away from her sexually and emotionally, she finds herself being drawn into a relationship with another man, against her better judgment.
Sutton does not pull any punches with this novel. Although not erotic, per se, her descriptions of Hope's encounters with her lover are quite explicit. Written in first person, we get a glimpse into the deep emotional turmoil that she has put herself in. There were times when I felt extreme frustration - even anger - with the main character. She seemed to be on a continuous merry-go-round, going from dissatisfaction and unhappiness, to uncontrollable desire, to remorse, back to dissatisfaction again. Sometimes it almost seemed like the story wasn't moving forward, but was trapped in this swirling vortex of conflicting emotion.
I suspect this sense of being trapped in a vicious cycle was exactly what author Michelle Sutton wanted, however. When Hope finally breaks the cycle by telling her husband about the affair, the book makes a major shift. In my view, the story actually peaks somewhere in the middle, with the climax or turning point coming with Hope's decision to terminate her affair once and for all. However, even though this might seem like a long resolution by modern standards, I actually found this to be the most satisfying part of the read. In fact, the plot structure reminded me of a Shakespearean play - not a shabby comparison by any means.
This is not a book for the faint of heart. Readers who may be alarmed by sexual frankness will not enjoy this book. Similarly, if you want your Christian heroine to be above reproach, then this one is not for you. If you want an honest portrayal, however, with a superbly satisfying finale that oozes with the restorative power of God, then read NEVER WITHOUT HOPE. In my view, this is Michelle Sutton's best work yet. It is full of depth and emotion, and the message of hope and redemption come across loud and clear.

Edgy Christian fiction set in the real world

Never Without Hope is Christian romance with a difference. Hope has it all-husband, son, an agent, even, almost, a publisher. She's part of an active church family. She goes to women's Bible studies. She's happy, and there's just that one thing worrying her; her husband's love, so consistent, so deep, seems somewhat less physical than it used to be.

Hope is beautiful, the sort of woman men's eyes might follow in a crowd, and she likes to be looked at. She likes to flirt, just a little, and knows she'll never stray. until that one man temps her just a little too far, when she's just a little too disappointed, just a little too eager for the comfort of somebody's touch. Then Hope's life begins to fall apart, and all the good intentions in the world can't help when temptation returns.

James is a good man, a gentle man, devoted father and husband, with just one little problem. So who's to blame? Young Jimmie points out that we all have choices, whoever's wounded us. And out of the mouths of children, pastors and friends, come the prayers a family needs-while out of the mouths of others come accusations and reminders of guilt.

Michelle Sutton creates some very believable, and believably flawed characters in her tale. Christians do stray, do hurt each other, do scream and shout and behave like hypocrites. But they also have hope. In this tale, even Hope will learn that God never lets her down. And the reader learns sympathy and forgiveness in a surprisingly powerful tale.

Disclosure: I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book as a Christmas gift from a Christian website, an I'm posting a review because I enjoyed it.

    Provacative, Edgy Christian Fiction

"Never Without Hope" is a fabulous book. It is hot, steamy and yes, it's Christian Fiction. But it's reality. In my opinion it's past time for more real, tough issues that could apply to women in all walks of life be addressed in Christian fiction.Michelle Sutton had the courage to do that in writing "Never Without Hope." It is a story of forgiveness and redemption. Yes, it does push the envelope and definitely belongs in the edgy Christian fiction group. It vividly records the pain that both families and friends suffer because of the affair. But for women and couples who are struggling through the discovery and recovery of an adulterous relationship, this book offers healing and hope. I would highly recommend this book to those couples, and to marriage counselors as well.

    Tough Issues

Michelle Sutton certainly lives up to her tagline as "the Edgy Inspirational Author" with this novel. Several times, as I read Never Without Hope, I found myself wanting to go find a fan. The thing about Michelle's writing is that she's not afraid to tackle the tough stuff; the subjects Christian readers want to know about, but are afraid to ask.

In Never Without Hope, Hope and James Williams are experiencing intimacy issues. Hope feels neglected and insecure, and falls into an adulterous affair with a man she meets on a plane. This man, Tony Perotta, lives in the same small town where Hope and her family live. Things get sticky when both their spouses find out about the affair, bringing about even more complications. All along Hope is sick about what she's been doing, yet, she can't seem to stop. As a Christian, she is ashamed to bring her plight to God. But she needs to do some serious repentance before she loses everyone important to her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, but I must issue a warning to those readers who are sensitive about explicit language and adult situations. I believe that these elements are necessary to the authenticity of the story, but parents should note that this is not a book for youngsters. Still, I highly recommend Never Without Hope, and especially to women who find themselves in the same circumstances as Hope Williams.

    Yield Not To Temptation...

Never in a million years would Hope ever believe that she were capable of adultery; however, when the communication in her marriage breaks down and her husband begins to neglect her, she finds herself in desperate need of physical attention, eventually seeking - and finding it - elsewhere. Suddenly torn between the equally compelling pulls of lust and loyalty, Hope is resolved to put the pieces of her broken marriage back together again - but will it ultimately cost her everything she holds dear...?

Drawn straight from the pages of everyday life, Never Without Hope is a gripping, powerfully insightful read. In standout fashion, author Michelle Sutton takes the reader deep into the heart and mind of a conflicted soul committed to doing the right thing - yet lured by the omnipresent temptation that haunts our every step. An inspiring Christian fiction tale, Never Without Hope tackles the rather taboo topics of lust and adultery, but rather than delve into the realm of the seamy, Sutton handles the issues both with grace and the utmost class. Also, the steaminess of the love scenes peppered throughout the story may be a bit intense for some readers, but in doing so, Sutton displays an admirable degree of taste while presenting the reader with a realistic portrait of the very real consequences of yielding to the pleasures of the flesh.

A striking reminder of the consequences of sin and the redemptive power of God's love, Never Without Hope is a touching tale of the importance of forgiveness - especially if the person we need to forgive the most is ourselves.

Edgiest Christian fiction I've ever read

The word on the 'net is Christian fiction doesn't come any edgier than Michelle Sutton. In the last few weeks, I've been all over the World Wide Web professing my love for edgy inspirational romance, so I decided it was time to pony up and try the edgiest on the market.

    Sutton's reputation is well earned.

But along with the edgy content- and I do mean edgy, is an equally powerful message about forgiveness and God's grace.

Hope's life is such a train wreck, I wanted to reach right into the book and pull her off the tracks. She's cheating on her husband, lying to her family, and sleeping around in cars (okay, technically just that once- but still). She's headed for disaster.

Sutton built a sense of urgency in the first half of the book which made it hard to put down. I just knew this situation would blow up in Hope's face, and couldn't stop reading until it did.

I would consider this a nontraditional romance because the heroine spends the first half of the story with a man who is not the hero. This leaves the reader with a sense of unease that I can't help but think was intentional on the author's part. We feel the despair and the weight of her sin right along with Hope.

That connection to the characters is where Sutton really shines. Their emotions were authentic and heartbreaking and sometimes scary. She showed just how easy it is to fall into temptation when we don't keep our guards up. But best of all, she showed that with repentance, forgiveness exists for everyone- adulterers included. When you let Him, the Lord can repair even the most broken of marriages. With that knowledge, we're never without hope.

(And bonus points to Sutton for a rockin' book cover!)

Steamy, edgy, sexy, but definitely Christian!

Do you like Edgy Christian Fiction? The kind that takes you "there" but in a discreet manner? I wasn't sure if I would like this book or not but decided to give it a try and let me tell you that I absolutely LOVED it! Michelle has written a wonderful story that incorporates temptation, forbidden love, consequences and most of all God's unfailing love.

Hope meets Tony on the airplane ride home from a writer's conference. He invites her to lunch after she lands in his lap trying to get by to go to the restroom! She figures she's married, everyone has to eat, and "we'll never see each other again after we leave the airport". She tells him she's a writer and he wants to read her manuscript. She doesn't have one with her, it was left with her editor, so she gives him her business card and says she can email him chapters. She tells him she would like to write an Italian man with Tony's gorgeous eyes into her next book. One thing leads to another and they end up in a passionate affair. Hope feels very guilty but just can't stop. She is getting what she needs from Tony because her husband doesn't fulfill her needs.

James is Hope's husband. He seems to have lost his "drive" and nothing Hope does can make a difference. She suggests help from either counseling or from a visit to his doctor. James refuses to discuss his "problem" with anyone. Hope is left frustrated and feeling like she isn't wanted. Tony is there making her feel loved and wanted. And at the same time, guilty.
How could she do this to her husband? How could she do this to their 9 year old son? What is her church going to say if they find out? What about her friends?

Hope wants to confess her infidelity to James but the time is just never right. When he finally does find out, what happens? Does he forgive his wife? What about Tony's wife? How does she react?
You won't want to pass this book by! It's not just about infidelity but about God's amazing grace and His unconditional love. He loves us even at our worst, when we can't even love ourselves.

This book has no vulgarity in it but does contain adult themes. I would recommend "Never Without Hope" for adults. I was not compensated in any way for this review.

By Suspense Lover (U.S.) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Never Without Hope (Sacred Vows) (Kindle Edition)
Michelle Sutton does it again! This wonderful author has the courage to tackle situations head on that other authors shy away from. This book is very intense and pretty steamy for an inspirational novel, but Ms. Sutton handles the topics of lust, sin, and an extra marital affair with a grace that only she can. Ms. Sutton's story shows us that God, through his tender and redemptive mercy can reach down and restore us wherever we are and no matter what we've done.

Never Without Hope is much steamier than what I normally read, but since Michelle Sutton is one of my favorite authors, I had to give it a read. It's good, but beware, Ms. Sutton's love scenes are more sensual than most Christian books. Her writing style is edgy enough to portray life just like it is.

I read somewhere that Ms. Sutton intends this book to be a ministry for women who struggle with sexual problems in their marriage and also for women who've had affairs. Never Without Hope is the perfect title because since God loves us with an unconditional love, we are never without hope. There's nothing else out there like it!

    There Is Hope

I had so many emotions as I read this book. As a woman whose ex husband cheated on her I know first hand the pain infidelity brings. My heart hurt for Hope who was dying inside wanting to be touched by James, at the same time it was crushed because while she was having the affair and was getting the physical affection she was "yearning" for it wasn't satisfying her because what she longed for and desired was the loving, and spiritual connection she had with her husband. Without giving too much away Hope realizes that she can't have a full and intimate relationship with her husband until God became the lover of her heart and soul. I totally identified with that, God is becoming the lover of my heart and soul as I have been healing from the pain of my divorce from my ex husband, knowing that I cannot be someone's partner until God is the complete lover of my heart and soul. This beautiful story gives hope to those who have been hit by the tornado of adultery. I was given new eyes of compassion for those who fall into the web of adultery, realizing that Satan really does use all kinds of trappings to ensnare us, and we really need to be praying for and with our mates daily. I can't recommend this book enough, this would be a great summer read for the beach! It comes out in JULY!!!! I give this book a LIGHTHOUSE and SHINE a LIGHT on it for pointing a path to GOD!!! Way to go Michelle!!!!!!!

Michelle hits a home run with this book, dealing with a topic that is very serious and painful – sexual sin that negatively impacts so many marriages. Though there is sexual content, it is written primarily from the emotional perspective rather than the physical. This adds to the depth of the story by opening the main character’s heart and mind to the reader in a way that would otherwise be missing.

Michelle also deals beautifully with the downward spiral sin takes us on if we allow it – from that first temptation to completely giving ourselves over to it. Hope repeatedly ignores ways of escaping the temptation and sin, much as human beings do every day. Then we see Hope’s struggle to face the consequences of her sin and to heal herself and her family after the devastation of it all.

For anyone who has ever dealt with sexual sin in their marriage – whether they have strayed or their spouse has, whether in small measure or large – this book has the potential to aid the healing process. The reality is that good people do bad things sometimes, but there is redemption.

Michelle Sutton did an amazing job writing NEVER WITHOUT HOPE. Here, you follow the life of a Christian and fall with them in sin, experience the devastating repercussions and then desperately reach for healing and forgiveness from something, at first glance, incomprehensible. In addition to the skill of making us, her readers, empathetic to the central character and circumstances, it also took courage to write this book. NEVER WITHOUT HOPE would serve as a good study for someone teetering on the brink of infidelity or who suffers within a broken marriage. In this age, when divorce is so easily justified, this novel offers a glimpse of hope and healing that can only come from one source—God. Realistic, raw, painful, and engaging, this is a great book.

Read Michelle Sutton and Never be Without Hope

Never Without Hope by Edgy Christian Fiction writer and healing hearts author Michelle Sutton wakes the world up to the fact that even Christians are not perfect, as the saying goes, no one is. Published by Sword of the Spirit Publishing, copyright 2010, the book is realistic to life, heart-touching, and makes the reader root for the main character to find a solution and save her marriage. Hope Williams loves her husband but struggles in her relationship when he neglects her in the marriage bed. After she's tried to persuade her husband to seek help to no avail, she endures through the true love she has for him. She thinks she would never cheat and couldn't be tempted until she meets Tony Perotta and asks him to help her with a novel-in-progress, but as they say, truth can be stranger than fiction. She discovers she's not above temptation after all.

Sword of the Spirit Publishing and Michelle Sutton have teamed up to make the perfect match, since neither are afraid to touch 'hot' topics that Christians face in real life. The book cover is beautiful, and the novel is written just as beautifully. Michelle's writing style takes the reader right through each conflict of the heart Hope battles with vivid physical and emotional descriptions. What can I say? I love her writing style and her talent for delving deep into human emotions to make a difference in hearts and lives. The theme of forgiveness is pivotal. Hope must seek her husband's and if he forgives her, can she forgive herself? Will their marriage ever be the same, or will it be even better, stronger? This life-touching, thought-provoking novel is available in all formats. If you have read, Michelle Sutton, yet, you have read realistic Christian fiction that will open your eyes and knot your heart. I highly recommend this novel and give it five stars for being original, creative, and life-altering.
