Overview

When it comes to Hollywood success stories none are more compelling than the
journey of Tyler Perry from homelessness to top-grossing playwright and movie star.

Melvin Childs, Executive Producer of Tyler Perry’s first national tour ‘I Know I’ve Been Changed’ takes readers behind the velvet rope and details how Tyler Perry went from obscurity to a household name. In Never Would Have Made It: The Rise of Tyler Perry, the Most Powerful Entertainer in Black America And What It Really Took To Get Him There, (Touch 1 Media, LLC., January 2012; Hard Cover $24.99, E-Book $9.99)

Childs shares the true story of being a mentor, producer and friend to Tyler Perry he discovered in a state of doubt and disappointment, struggling for acceptance before small church audiences.

But Childs believed in the playwright and foresaw his success. Together they
reinvented the format creating the framework for the Tyler Perry brand, today a multi-million dollar enterprise. In a riveting account of secret back room deals, illicit cash; backstabbing and double-dealing, the book is a portrait of human nature, big business, betrayal and ultimately finding forgiveness. A must read for Tyler Perry fans Never Would Have Made It is an inspirational story about using love and faith to overcome deceit and failure. The book’s uplifting message will resonate with those who have not received their due after sacrificing to contribute to the success of others.

    Sadly disapointing

An unfortunate waste of time & money, mostly about the author not Tyler Perry.

    Very Good!

Intriguing, attention grabbing book from the start. Loved reading how Tyler started as nothing and rose to the top as a top notch entertainer!

Great book, sheds light on the true story!

This was an excellent read. We finally get to hear the true story of the rags to riches. The book is very enlightening and Childs tell the story in his own words on how Tyler Perry got his start. My first thought was that this was another book bashing a successful member of our community, but it is not the case. I would love to see this as a movie!!

Don't forget your roots... Do the right Thing Mr. Perry

I think this is great insight of a story that is usually untold. I believe this story is true because Tyler Perry would have sued the pants off of Mr. Childs if it was not. I just hope Mr. Perry will read this book and do the Christian thing that he preaches in all of his plays and movies and recognize someone had to sacrifice and order for his dreams to come true, it may have be ruff and uneasy, but it seem to have paid off in the long run. Do the right thing Mr. Perry.

    A MOVIE IN WORDS

This book grabbed me from start to finish. I'm not a everyday reader but I read this book in less than 24 hours. The author shared a lot of the business side in this book and its amazing how many don't know this side. I highly recommend this book.

    REALLY!

This is Melvin Child's therapy session. If he harbors no hard feelings toward Tyler, why does this book exist? Maybe he's hoping Tyler will write him a check. I definitely want to ask Melvin for my money back!
