Angela Brown has created an absorbing tale of a seemingly doomed love affair between two teens who come from troubled family backgrounds and have been offered another chance at life (or afterlife). The problem is, they are working for very different masters. The characterisation was very strong in this book; I was rooting for these two as much as I was repulsed by others. Brown keeps the twists coming, making you read on to discover how things will turn out for Abby and Basil. Vivid description puts you right in the scene, especially in the appropriately horrific portrayal of hell. I'm really looking forward to reading more work from this author.

Abigail's future had never looked more bleak. So when she tries to end her life, she receives one thing she never expected: a chance at a good future. At V'Salicus Academy, she trains to be a servant of Heaven to help escort souls to Judgement. She still must deal with the pain of her past, but she meets a cute boy named Basil in a coffee shop and he makes her feel good again. The secrets keep building, and when everything explodes, Abigail must decide between duty and love.
Angela Brown hooks the reader with a powerful beginning and doesn't disappoint with several shocks at the end. It's a dark and emotional tale that makes your stomach twist and your heart hammer in your chest. Abagail begins at the bottom in the darkest depths of her own nightmares and claws her way back up. She's real, lovable, and admirable. I'm an even bigger fan of Basil. Smart, compassionate, and a bit of a geek. I love he's not the bad boy we typically see in YA books.
The plot takes the reader on several twists and turns. To dark places and sweet moments. The imagery is astounding. I could picture even the most horrific things in my head like a certain throne!
I can't wait to read more in this series and to learn more about the fascinating mythos.
“You are my type. Not even type. You are it! No one else smiles and makes the sun feel ashamed. No one else matters. Only now do I understand what it means to live for someone, be willing to die for them.” -Angela Brown, Neverlove
Abby has been broken, and she has lost all hope of ever being fixed. She is living a life in fear of the one person who should protect her no matter what. What do you do when no one believes you and things are getting worse? Abby chose to end her suffering, but it didn’t work. She survived and now she has to pull the pieces back together again.
Father Quanon reaches out to Abby. He knows that she needs a purpose, a cause, to help her heal her own wounds. What better way to heal than helping lost souls like herself. Abby reluctantly accepts Father Quanon’s offer to attend V’Salicious Academy and train to be a Cleanser. Her job, if she could earn it, would be to find lost souls and lead them to the gates of judgement.
Abby takes to her training with a vengeance. Slowly her souls begins to heal, and that is when she meets Basil. Basil takes her breath away and makes her feels things that she thought she would never feel willing again. Almost instantly a bonds between Abby and Basil.
But does Abby really know who Basil is? Basil has dark secrets of his own. He is afraid if Abby finds out about his true nature she will turn her back on him forever.
Sometimes the devil you know, is better than the devil that he knows…Abby and Basil will have to fight to the depths of hell for their love. Old enemies will return and new ones will stake their claim. Is it strong enough to withstand the heat?
Nevermore tells a story that shows how dark and depraved the human soul can be. This is not a story for the faint of heart. It is a story for those who have, like the phoenix, risen out of the ashes of their deepest fears and seized their destiny in their own hands. Angela Brown writes a captivating tale that wraps itself around you and tugs you deeper into the world of lost souls.
There’s a lot of reapers out there in the YA paranormal romance genre and I like them. Neverlove has a unique spin on what I’ve seen so far—WIN!
The story starts with a bang and keeps going right until the epic conclusion. The alternating points of view between the three main characters allowed me to see more of the bigger picture while also seeing both sides of the story. It was fascinating, thought-provoking, and educating all in one.
In this world, there is conflict between the Cleansers (a group who fight to save souls) and Harvestors (a group who consume souls for the devil). And love is a luxury that no Cleanser or Harvestor can afford.
But it’s so irresistible!
Chaos ensues as the characters struggle to maintain their values and ideals in the face of love. What’s most striking is the growth that the characters go through because of it.
Well done, Angela! Can’t wait to read more.
Dark and twisty from start to finish. This is a unique look at the afterlife and what happens to souls in the next stage. It took my breath away with the first page and let me get it back. Loved it!

4.5 stars!
What a great debut from Angela Brown. In this story, she has given us realistic characters, a well-developed paranormal story with anchors to the "real" world. Excellent job
