Carol Brock is in her early 40s and works as a very successful realtor. One day her car gets damaged by a handsome architect named Devin, and the two strike up a business (and personal) relationship. This doesn’t set too well with Devin’s ex, a disturbed woman named “Allison”. She sets out to cause trouble, and succeeds. I read this story from cover to cover and didn’t put it down once. It was wonderful! SO easy to get swept up in, and I enjoyed the characters as much as I did the suspenseful plot. Recommend for fans of thrillers/suspense/romance and women’s lit.

I remember when I read Winds of Change by Mary Metcalfe, as much as I really enjoyed it, I remember thinking that it could benefit from some heightened tension and stakes. Well I certainly got my wish in this book! I read it I one sitting and was constantly being pulled forward with the story. It is fast paced and very well written (like her first one), and again there is a certain authenticity and relatable-ness to her characters. Sure she has money and a nice car, but she also has kids and a house and friends to care for. And a horrid ex-husband and a scandalous past. She’s human and looking to evolve and I respect that. Another winner from Ms. Metcalfe. Loved it! Can’t wait for the next one!

I was already a huge fan of Mary Metcalfe, so I had some admittedly high expectations upon starting “New Beginnings”. True, it was different than her other novel, but I think I liked it better! I loved the way she was able to combine so many different elements into one cohesive story. Let me explain…some books are plot driven, others are character driven, some focus on the romance, others on external conflict or relationships…well this book is ALL of that and more! I really enjoy her writing style and like the way she creates her characters. This was a pretty quick read for me (2 nights) and I was sad when it was over (although the ending was nice).

This is the second book I have read by Mary Metcalfe, the first being “Winds of Change” which I really enjoyed, and I thought this one was very good as well. It had many elements that made it compelling reading for me, but to be truthful, the best part was the inclusion of the crazy psychopath woman. I love me some crazy chicks! (guys work well too). I think crazy people are fascinating and so much fun to read about. But there was more to this novel than just the unhinged ex, there was a relationship between Carol and Devin, and Carol’s personal demons she had to overcome. All in all a very enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to “Road to Tomorrow”.

Very good read! This is the first book I’ve read by Mary Metcalfe, but I’m sure it won’t be the last! (I’ve already put “Winds of Change” and “Road to Tomorrow” on my TBR list). I appreciated the easy tone of this book, as I read at night to relax, not to have to focus particularly hard or concentrate on some convoluted and overly complex plot. But of course I want to be entertained and not suffer through something that is boring. It is admittedly a fine line, that is why I like books like this one. I was hooked from the beginning and liked Carol as a protagonist. I do feel like she and I had some similarities, and I liked that I could relate to her. I’m not saying she was perfect, but I like flawed characters and like to see them change and grow. I liked the “psycho” element as it provided the ongoing danger and conflict, and although I didn’t necessarily agree with everything that happened, I will say that overall I liked this story very much. And as I already stated, I’ll be reading her other books soon.

I first became aware of Mary Metcalfe when I read her novel “Winds of Change” and fell in love with her writing style. So of course I jumped at the chance to read “New Beginnings” and I’m happy to say I loved it just as much! It didn’t make me cry like the first one did, but it toyed with my emotions nonetheless. This was a very different story, one that dealt with a dangerous stalker/harasser who infiltrates Carol’s life, and causes her to re-evaluate everything. I loved it and found it hard to put down. Perfect for a beach read or curled up in front of the fireplace on a rainy day.

Carol Brock's life has been filled with plenty of rocky roads, she has become a strong woman with all those hits she has taken. Seeing her mirror dangling and the truck that did it right there, she takes action. Although she didn't expect the man driving the truck to be Devin Elliott, a restoration specialist. Devin is attracted to the firecracker in front of him. He is not put off when she turns him down though and when they meet again, he gets a second chance at trying to get to know Carol. Of course neither expect Devin's ex to go off the deep end and threaten Carol. Devin swoops in and together they devise a strategy to keep her and her family safe. Even with all the drama surrounding them, they find that everything about being together feels right. I loved the opening of this one. Carol was going gonzo, it was a hoot and started the book with instant chemistry. Excellent read, will definitely read more from this author

Carol Brock is a forty-three year old successful real estate agent who has sworn off men after a series of bad relationships. Carol is determined to take back control of her life and career, that is until she meets Devin Elliott, Boston's most eligible bachelor and restoration specialist. Devin puts in an offer for a Victorian house that Carol has listed, there is mutual attraction and a chance at a new beginning for both of them. But there is just one little problem ... Devin's psychopathic ex-girlfriend Allison, who is hellbent on stopping Devin from buying her mother's house and his growing relationship with Carol. Can Carol and Devin overcome the complications and obstacles that arise from their budding relationship and get a chance at a new beginning? In New Beginnings, the second book of the Look To The Future series, author Mary Metcalfe weaves an intriguing tale of romance and suspense that will captivate the reader's attention. The reader is transported to picturesque New England as they follow Carol Brock and Devin Elliott's budding professional and personal relationship that is wrought with past emotional baggage, complications, and one seriously psycho ex-girlfriend. This fast-paced story has a good mixture of romance, drama, tension, intrigue and suspense that easily draws the reader in and keeps them turning the pages. The characters are realistic and well developed with witty dialogue and engaging interactions; the author provides a richly detailed description of the setting; and a fascinating storyline that flows seamlessly as it builds momentum with unpredictable developments and suspenseful twists and turns until the dramatic conclusion. I enjoyed watching the development of Carol and Devin's relationship, and how they both had to let go of their past emotional baggage, overcome unpredictable obstacles, re-evaluate their lives and take a risk in order to move forward and get a second chance at a new beginning. New Beginnings is an enjoyable romantic suspense thriller that is simply hard to put down!

As a real estate agent, Carol was one of the best.  She fought hard for her career and the scandal of the last year or so made it more difficult to hold on to.  She was contacted by a woman to place her mother's Victorian home on the market.  A very short time later, Devin Elliot made an offer.  The trouble began then.  Carol would get involved in a situation she never saw coming.  Through it all though, Devin was there for her.      You can begin from today and create your own heaven on earth.  This book really shows that. Well written and characters that are well defined and relatable make this a terrific read.  The easy style Ms Metcalfe writes with flows so well you'll reach the end before you realize it.  This is one for the TBR pile.      I found no issues.      I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because the message is lovely.   ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
