Overview

Adam Cade is entitled, arrogant, and wears an Armani suit like no one I've ever seen. When he flashes those baby blues, no woman can resist him. Even I struggle. He's the prince of Lake Tahoe, born into one of the wealthiest families in the area--and he knows the power he holds over this town.

He doesn't recognize me.

He definitely doesn't remember how he helped this town ruin my life.

Now I've returned with a degree and a backbone, to take on my dream job at Blue Casino. I won't quit just because Adam works there too. But I don't count on the dark secrets the casino seems to be hiding. Or that Adam has a hand in them. I have no choice but to get close to the arrogant ass if I want to save my job.

Only the closer I get, the less I see of the guy who wronged me in high school, and more of the sweet, sexy man he is now.

I'm not sure what's more frightening--that my dream job is turning out to be a nightmare, or that I'm falling for Adam and he stands for everything I'm fighting against.

I'm a huge fan of Jules and her Blue Series, but for whatever reason, New Blue didn't click with me like the rest of the series. Not that I didn't like it, because I did, I just didn't love it. After finishing and decompressing for a few days, I think my issues have to do with the characters themselves. They're not the same dynamic, intense characters I've come to know and love in the Blue series. And it wasn't that they weren't interesting and dynamic, it's that I didn't feel like they were that way TOGETHER. God, I hate myself for saying that (Jules don't hate me, too), but for me, something, some spark, was missing with these two that I felt immediately with Cali and Jaeg, Mira and Tyler (especially), and Gen and Lewis. Even Nessa and Zach in their novella had that instant spark. Okay, now that I've gone on and on about what I don't like, let me tell you all the things I loved about it. Plot The plot was outstanding. The push and pull of the romance was well done (even without the chemistry), and the mystery of the Bliss suites was incredibly fun to watch unfold. Just when I thought the whole thing couldn't get any more repugnant, it did, making Blue's CEO among the worst villains since maybe President Snow himself. Characters Once again, the characters all have fascinating backstories that make them well rounded and intriguing. I love that we got to spend so much time with the crew from Lake Tahoe again, since this is the last in that series. I'm still hoping for cameos in the next series. Everyone from Hayden and Adam to Adam's smarmy co-workers and their stupid blue rings added tension and intrigue to the story. Top Five Things I Enjoyed About New Blue 1. Hayden's house. It sounds exactly like the kind of place I'd like to live. 2. Shoe closets. Who doesn't secretly (or not so secretly) want one? 3. Lake Tahoe. The setting remains one of my favorite places in California and it was nice to visit in warm weather for a change. 4. Karma. What goes around comes around! 5. The ending. Perfect. Blue fans will know what I'm talking about :-) Bottom Line New Blue is a new adult romance that has many of Blue's recurring cast, along with a couple of newbies who shake things up at the office and at home. This is a stand-alone book but it is the last book of the Blue Series, so you’ll gain more insight into the secondary characters by reading the other stories. I enjoyed Book 1 better than Book 5, but it is still an enjoyable read. The main complaint was that Hayden as a HR manager did some questionably ethical things to get to the truth which bothered me. Hayden Tate works for Blue Casino, but it is obvious early on that she doesn’t have the CEO’s respect, but the recent history of Blue Casino is questionable, so this doesn’t come as a surprise. Enter Adam Cade – the rich, arrogant, recently promoted, HOT new Hospitality Manager. Hayden and Cade spar from Day One and the banter back and forth both in person and in their heads as they start to fall for each other was laugh out loud funny. That was my favorite part of the story. Adam has to decide if trying to gain independence from his family fortune by compromising his ethics is worth running the risk of losing Hayden. Hayden for her part – doesn’t make things easy on Adam as she pursues what she thinks is right in questionable ways. The secondary characters bring more depth to the story and Hayden and Adam certainly have good chemistry. This series is worth checking out. And it sets up the next series of Cade brothers perfectly! This is the 5th and final book in the Blue series by Jules Barnard. The series revolves around the Blue Casino in the Lake Tahoe area and follows a group of friends as they find their way through the pitfalls of young adulthood. Hayden works in the HR department of the Blue Casino and is faced with the prejudice of the “good old boys” network in the casino upper management. When she begins to express concerns about some things happening in the management of the casino, as well as in a new hush-hush project, she becomes determined to shed light on those activities that she is convinced are illegal. Adam is struggling with his new position at Blue. He wants to get out from under his father’s thumb and is thrilled with his independence but begins to see the seamier side of the casino business and is not sure he wants to be involved. There is definite chemistry between Adam and Hayden and they are both fighting the attraction. She does not want to believe he is involved in anything illegal but all indicators point that direction. Adam knows something is going on and wants to protect Hayden from getting involved and from getting hurt. The story alternates between both Adam’s and Hayden’s points of view so the reader get a realistic look at their feelings and their struggles to do what is right but also to accept their feelings toward each other. Both of them struggle with events from their past and those events play a big role in who they are today. I enjoyed the book and would recommend reading the previous books in the series as the characters have recurring roles in all the books. Disclaimer: I was gifted a copy of the book in advance in exchange for my honest review.

Tempers flare and sparks fly in this enemies to lovers tale. New Blue gives us a healthy dose of suspense and drama in addition to the sizzling chemistry and the tension between Adam and Hayden. I love the direction New Blue takes us in, Jules Barnard is not afraid to take us down unusual paths in her books, and this one was probably one of the best, leading us with a story of not often told issues and hitting closer to reality. But it happens in an intriguing and realistic way, showing us the depth of character of both Adam and Hayden. Hayden left town after as scandal in high school, but now she's back and she's not willing to be held back. She wants to do a good job, and she also wants to bring any and all illegal activities in her workplace to the forefront to get them shut down and the men running them out and into whatever legal trouble she can. She wants them to pay, so she's trying to figure out what is being hidden in the casino all while trying to stay away from Adam, a man she should loathe. She's not sure just how trustworthy he is. Adam is struggling to be independant. He wants to break away from the hold his father has on him and strike out on his own, but he wants to do so in the manner he's accustomed to, ie financially sound. When he's promoted at the Casino and brough in to work on a special project, Adam can't believe his luck, he knows he's one step closer to the security he seeks, but as he delves deeper into the work, he's not so sure its worth it. He's not sure why Hayden seems to dislike him so much, but he knows she makes him feel different things and he isn't sure what to do about that. New Blue brings us deeper into the story we've followed in the previous Blue Books, still figuring out all the details surrounding the misdeeds of the hotel elite, Hayden and her crew is determined to set things to right and bring down the bad guys, but can they do it without someone getting hurt? Both Hayden and Adam have to come to grips with what they are and are not willing to accept or do to keep their jobs. They both also have to figure out the twisting emotions they set loose in each other. When it comes to mixing business and pleasure, just how far are they willing to go and will they find that there are more important things in life than a job?

When I request this book, I was oblivious to the fact that this was in fact, a series. Not a cliffhanger series, and this can be read as a stand alone, but this was the 5th and final book in a series, where characters from the prior books were prominent characters in this one, as were things that occurred in those books. Most times, I can read a book in a series like this and not feel the urge to go back and start from the beginning and that was the case with this one. Hayden was originally from Lake Tahoe, but moved away after an incident during her high school years. She has returned to prove a point to those that ran her out. She gets a job at the Blue Casino as an HR supervisor and is attempting to find out just how crooked the owner(s) of this establishment are. During her time working there, she works with Adam Cade...a boy she knew in high school who is a man who invades her thoughts now. Adam, a man raised with a silver spoon/trust fund is trying to find a way for himself in the wold, w/o having to depend on his father's money. Overall, I enjoyed this book but I do not think I will go back and read the prior 4 in this series. But I am looking forward to the brother's stories! **ARC received via IndieSage in exchange for an honest review*

Very enjoyable book. This is the fifth and final book in the series but it did introduce several characters we will see in the spin off series. This one can easily be read standalone. The entire series, and this book is no exception, has great writing and characters as well as the exciting behind the scenes casino action that make it a fantastic read In New Blue Hayden Tate is working hard in the male dominated Blue Casino and the one person she despises most just got a fantastic promotion. Of course she's not at all surprised since she's sure his daddy had something to do with it. She just has to hope he won't get in her way while she tries to dig up dirt on the casino's higher ups. Proof of corruption is the only way to take these guys down. Adam Cade doesn't understand why Hayden seems to hate him so much but pushing her buttons is about the most fun he's had in a long time. After finally breaking away from his father, he feels like he is finally making his own way. Letting Hayden derail his efforts just isn't an option. Things just don't seem to be the way they should be at the casino though and that has him proceeding cautiously. Add to that the fact that his attraction to Hayden will not die down and he is utterly frustrated! You definitely will enjoy Hayden and Adam's story. I highly recommend it.
