Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
Each two page spread is listed as a chapter in this picture book on preparations for a new baby. Each page has a colored photograph and two sentences. The page "What Do New Babies Need?" says "Babies need diapers because they cannot use the bathroom yet. They also need a special car seat to keep them safe in the car." The photo shows a happy baby with a fresh diaper. The page "Can the Baby Play with Me?" says "New babies will not be able to play with you until they are older. When they are little, you can show babies toys and books." The picture shows a girl sitting on the floor with a baby in her lap, and a boy showing the baby a picture book. One page shows baby equipment such as: bottle, crib, and car seat. There is a picture glossary, lists of books, Websites, and an index. This is one of the "Growing Up" series of the Read and Learn collection. Wonderful photos of babies with family members of various ethnic origins and simple texts make this an attractive book to prepare children for a new baby. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
