As a Veteran with 3 combat tours to the Middle East under my belt and a cop going on five years on the streets, this book was about as true as a fiction book can get about what goes through a new guy's mind. It was recommended to me by an "old timer" I work with and I literally couldn't put it down! I really liked it and recommended it to the new "rooks" that just came out to the streets. Now I'm into Joe Wambaugh books....

An accurate, moving, disturbing account of three officers first five years on the force. Must reading, to this day, for every police officer.

Joseph Wambaugh tells it like it is! The realism is what hits you in the face like a bucket of ice water! You won't want to put this book down!

Joe Waumbaugh writes from experience. He was a cop and knows the ins and outs of police work like a pro. If you like the book, then you should see the movie they made of it. I'm a schoolteacher. I never had to wrestle drunks on a Saturday night. But I had to teach their kids.
