From the Trade Paperback edition.
Faced with the prospect of having three children in college at the same time, Frost and her family decided to bypass the paradigm of higher education in the United States. Through trial and error (and no small amount of boldness), all four of her children received a global education that inspired them to get started on their career passions faster, and less expensively, than their peers on traditional education tracks. This book not only tells the story of how they (and others) did it but also provides a strong argument for approaching education this way. Frost's prose is engaging, and she frequently illustrates her points with the stories of successful young adults in their own voices. She also offers advice for parents who may feel overwhelmed or pressured to conform by their neighbors and families, addressing many of the situations they may find themselves in should they choose to take their children's education in a nontraditional, global direction.

After reading a library copy of Maya's book, I'm now buying my own to use as a continued reference over the next several years of my teen daughter's education. The author freely admits that all of the innovative methods she describes aren't for every student. It's for open-minded, proactive readers who know their student to decide which are and which aren't. Just one useful tip that's implemented, however, can potentially impact your family's educational budget & your student's debt commitment while changing a young person's life and future for the better in ways you and the student probably haven't even imagined! Many of Maya's ideas have been closely-guarded secrets, since higher education in the U.S. is a job-laden & profitable industry full of vested interests seeking to retain their gatekeeper status. She informs readers very clearly and even entertainingly (with many widely-varied students' personal success stories) about how to navigate and sometimes circumvent the established system to acquire the most valuable academic and life-experience credentials--and even more importantly, a truly useful, in-depth global perspective & education--in the most time-efficient and cost-effective ways. A great resource for parents and students to have on your bookshelf, refer to often, and overcome your "fego" (fear and ego) to ACTUALLY USE!

Overview
Good-bye, Old School. Hello, Bold School! In 2005, Maya Frost and her husband sold everything and left their suburban American lifestyle behind in order to have an adventure abroad. The tricky part: they had to shepherd their four teenage daughters through high school and into college. This hilarious and conspiratorial how-to handbook describes the affordable, accessible, and stunningly advantageous options they stumbled upon that any American student can leverage to get an outrageously relevant global education.
