Overview

In a world that seems increasingly fragmented, John PhilipNewell calls us to a vision of life's essential oneness. He invitesus to be part of a new harmony. In his previous book, Christ of theCelts, Newell freshly expressed the ancient Celtic vision ofcreation's sacredness and unity. In that poetic treatment of thewisdom of Celtic spirituality, he pointed the way to a Christianitymore integrated with the earth and with the rest of humanity. A NewHarmony takes the next step forward by articulating a vision and apathway toward transformation in our lives and world. A New Harmonycommunicates across the boundaries of religion and race that haveseparated us and honors our distinct inheritances by serving whatis deeper still—the oneness of our origins and the oneness ofearth's destiny.

Newell explores the ancient harmony that is deep in the matterof the universe, the essential interconnectedness of all things.Everything, whether the expanding light of distant galaxies orhumanity's inner light of mind and consciousness, carries withinitself the life of the universe's shared beginning. With keeninsight and sensitivity, he confronts the brokenness of ourharmony, as individuals and families and as nations and species.Only by knowing and naming the extent and depth of our disharmonywill we find the way forward. Confronting our brokenness, individually and together, is integral to the hope for healing.

Throughout the book, Newell leads us on a pathway of discoverytoward transforming the way we understand ourselves. He challengesus to consider the possibilities of a new harmony in ourlives—as individuals, as communities, and as nations—byasking "What is the cost, both personal and collective, ofreleasing life's essential oneness in radically new andtransformative ways?"

A MUST read for spiritual growth and journey!

Raised as a "cradle Catholic," I have traveled a lonesome path of new incites and growth in what I believe or DON'T believe. I experienced all the judgments of Catholic and male superiors. J. Philip Newell not only opened my eyes and heart, but gave me "permission" to believe what I had always suspected, and to feel loved for who I am and how I want to be.
