I have kept up with all of the BPD books that come out. I just finished this book and I'm not only pleased, I'm stunned! This book discusses EVERYTHING a consumer would want to know and more. Easy to read. Filled with knowledge about what BPD is, treatment, a special outstanding section for families - you name it, it is here. This book I know will further not only consumer's knowlege of the BPD but it is helpful not only for families but I believe clinician's will learn a great deal for treatment. This book is easily the best book out there for the consumer for the BPD. It is also the best book for families out there for BPD. The family section reads totally without stigma, is understanding and will help you to understand that you are not alone and some things you can do to help. Stop Walking on Eggshells is a good book and very helpful but it contains some stigma and reads without the heart that this book has. Eggshells just went down a peg when this book came out, sorry to say as I advocated for that book for a long time. There is no blaming in this book, only help for the families. If you have the BPD or are a family member, this book is priceless. In many cases it is us who have to teach our mental health clinicians how to treat us. I highly recommend getting educated about this disorder and understand that it is treatable. The information is here in this book.

I am SO GLAD I found this book !! It's the one book that has given me SO much hope for myself and my family...It is written SO clearly and by people who clearly care about and GET those who suffer from this...people who drag around a boulder that is as heavy and burdensome as it is transparent to the world at large... THANK YOU Dr. Bockian (and Valerie and Nora too!) for all you have done...This is a competently written, user-friendly, compassionate manual FILLED with resources that truly delivers what its title promises...NEW HOPE !! I know I have it !

I had a sociology professor (and social worker) recommend I Hate You/Don't Leave Me. I found it difficult to get through and was still in doubt as to whether my mother really had this disorder. After I got through the first couple of chapters of NEW HOPE, I had a much clearer understanding of the disorder and what my mother was going through.
