Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Lauri Berkenkamp
The life and adventures of Luke Skywalker, famous Jedi warrior, is told in this fictional biography by Ryder Wyndham. The book begins with a conversation between Skywalker and his sister, Princess Leia, as they discuss their relationship with their evil father, Darth Vader. Luke struggles with his identity and that of his father, and asks himself, "How can I know myself if I never really knew my father?" This is the question that sparks Luke's book-length flashback into his life story. The novel begins with Luke's childhood on his uncle's moisture ranch on the planet Tatooine and follows Luke's adventures, first as a young boy interested in fast-flying skyhoppers and laser rifles, and then as a warrior and Rebel fighter. Throughout, Luke wrestles with his conflicted feelings regarding his father. The book ends with Luke and his pal, Han Solo, defeating a mind witch and Han giving Luke the good advice that knowing himself is more important than knowing who his father was. Fans of the "Star Wars" series will undoubtedly enjoy reading the life story of the young hero, but readers unfamiliar with the movies and Star Wars fan fiction will likely be confused by the complicated relationships between planets, cultures, spaceships, people, and even animal-like creatures portrayed in the book.
