This book is a great addition to any fan of beer or anyone that is interested in making their own beer.
As of now I have been to:
and plan on making it to the rest of them by the end of 2009.
Pizzeria Uno in Metuchen, which is about 10 min. from J.J. Bitting in Woodbridge is the only Uno's of the chain that makes their own beer on site. I highly recommend a day trip to both of them and both offer Growler's that you can purchase for about $13.00.
I live about 10 min. east of Triumph in Princeton and the sampler there is excellent (also can purchase Growler's there).
I have been to Brewer's Apprentice a few times and the employees/owner of the BA are very nice. You can make your own beer/wine, beer ranging from a light Coors to an extra dark Guinness (anything dark there is a great beer).
J.J. Bittings in Woodbridge is an old coal company and if you sit in the back bar area you can appreciate the history of the building. I recommend going there in the spring/summer where you can sit on the roof in the beer garden and really put your feet up and relax with a great beer. I have NEVER had a bad beer at J.J. Bitting and rate this stop as my top places for a great microbrew beer in NJ.
Harvest Moon is located just outside the campus of Rutgers in New Brunswick and about 15 min. north-west of Uno's in Metuchen. HM reminds me alot of Triumph in Princeton, very good beer, but food a little pricey for what you get. If you want alot of food w/ your beer you are better off at J.J's (great chili).
River Horse and Flying Fish are very similar in tours/tastings. They are smaller, but the owners are very nice and both have a small gift shop area and the pint glasses are a great addition to any home bar.
I'll be traveling in a couple weeks to Tun Tavern in A.C as the beerfest is there on 3/21 & 3/22/09, however if Tun in A.C is anything like the one in Philly, it will be a nice stop.
I can be found on www.beeradvocate.com under the name of GuinnessGuy (Hamilton, NJ)
Have a great trip to the breweries, we are only here once....Cheers!!
