Overview

When members of the colonial assembly warned Governor Philip Carteret in 1668 that he should abandon any expectations "that things must go according to your opinions," they struck a keynote for the New Jersey experience and suggested to author Thomas Fleming what perhaps should have been the state's motto: "Divided We Stand."Ethnic diversity made New Jersey an early testing ground for the melting pot, as Yankees, Irish, Italians, and blacks strove for a chance at the good life. To many, that meant a job in the factories that made the state an industrial pioneer; to others, it meant life on the farms that made New Jersey truly the "Garden State."Mr. Fleming concludes that today New Jersey may be in the vanguard of a new American way of life, "the first metropolitan state with equally convenient access to cities and to countryside." He foresees an "equally-oriented New Jersey, honestly and efficiently governed," reminding the nation that divisiveness and acrimony can have more than one outcome. After all, New Jerseyites may have voted repeatedly for the "Boss of Bosses," Frank Hague, but they also once chose as their governor a Princeton professor named Woodrow Wilson.

Sonic walked down to the soccer field to meet his teammates for the big game. They were facing the pirates. Sonic had arranged with amy that she would go to the game to watch him play and then after the game they would meet for dinner. Silver walked up to sonic. " Ready for the big game?" Silver said. " Yup," sonic replied. " I cant wait!" As he walked on to the field he looked around for amy. But she wasnt there! Maybe she'll turn up later he thought to himself. (Announcer) theres the kickoff. Heres sonic with the ball. To tails. Here comes shadow running down the middle! The cross! Saved by the goalkeeper. So close! Nova kicks the ball up to glow. Heres shadow running in again! The cross! Running down the wing is the pirates halfback. A nice pass. Tackled by shadow and a whistle is blown. Ooh. The ref goes into his pocket and pulls out a yellow card. Free kick. The shot on goal is saved by silver, but then the foward for the pirates comes running in and smashes the ball into the back of the net and thats a goal! Kickoff emeralds. Tails to sonic. Sonic passes it back to tails and he is tackled hard. A clear foul there and thats a red card. Hes off the field. Free kick emeralds. Sonic will take the free kick. He smashes it into the corner of the net and thats the winning goal! He is being mobbed by his teammates and the emeralds win the championships 2-1! (Chapter 2 next result and so on.)
