Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Rather than discussing the stages of fetal development, labor, and delivery, this title focuses on the mother and her well-being during pregnancy. Originally published in England in 1990, it uses holistic and alternative therapies to condition and relax the mother. In addition to stressing sound basic information on nutrition and the importance of good posture, British childbirth educator Balaskas offers well-illustrated chapters on yoga and exercise, massage, natural therapies (acupuncture, herbal and homeopathic remedies, reflexology), and holistic healing. Balaskas encourages women to consult their physicians before using alternative therapies. Women contemplating pregnancy will still need the information found in classic sources such as Arlene Eisenberg's What To Expect When You're Expecting, but New Natural Pregnancy is a good complementary source for exercises and relaxation techniques. Recommended for public libraries and consumer health and alternative medicine collections.--Barbara M. Bibel, Oakland P.L., CA Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
