Overview

Over 200 of the best, most creative, and most striking international posters of recent times.
Even today, among the ever-increasing welter of digital media and abundance of images, the poster remains a key means of disseminating information and an important medium for designers' artistic expression. But how does a designer transform a blank piece of paper into a seductive image? Are there any abiding principles, or—as it sometimes seems—does anything go?
The works featured in New Poster Art have been created by the world's most prominent designers, and the majority come from the past fifteen years. As is clear from these pages, posters have become a testing ground for artistic innovation, boasting breathtaking levels of conceptual and visual experimentation and skill.
Featuring work by Bose, Brade, Morla, Pesce, Sagmeister, Tartakove, Troxler, and many more, the book proves that the poster is still a major form of graphic communication.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

De Jong, the director of a Dutch design studio, and graduate students Stefanie Burger and Jorre Both consider the future of the poster in the digital age. Covering commercial poster design primarily from the past 15 years, they maintain that the poster is a relevant form of visual communication despite the advent of newer technologies. International in scope, the book covers individual artists more than larger firms and includes artists' biographical sketches. John Foster's similar New Masters of Poster Design gives a better-written analysis of poster art and focuses greater attention on notable works of design firms in various countries worldwide. Aside from these differences, both books can be described by the same strengths and weaknesses. While each showcases important examples well, the inclusions are rather arbitrary and could be strengthened by the identification of these artists and firms as illustrations of broader ideas and trends. Both New Poster Art and New Masters of Poster Design are recommended as optional purchases for academic libraries.
