    A Must Have

    Cooking is one of my life's joys. I own and read a lot of cookbooks. This book transcends cultural, geographic, and generational boundaries. You don't have to be from the South or an accomplished cook to thoroughly enjoy what's inside. The recipe entries are accompanied by narratives which impart not only a sense of place and history about the dish, but typically a great deal of culinary wisdom as well. The author is clearly not only very well versed in food but passionate about it and able to communicate about it. This book thus is a joy to read, not just for the recipes, but for the story of our food. It solves the problem of " there's great looking squash at the market, but I'm not sure what to do with it". Recommended without reservation.
