    A unique and valuable contribution

***Full Disclosure*** Before you read this review, you should know that I had some involvement in this project. It was a small role (comparing Greek texts for accuracy), but in no way should it diminish my sincerity, for my involvement began only when I discovered this translation was already underway and almost complete. The EOB New Testament makes a unique and valuable contribution to the world of biblical scholarship. It is authoritative, readable and is the first English translation of the Patriarchal Text (more on this below). The appendices also have fascinating articles on things such as John 1:1 and the Filioque controversy. Even if you're not inclined to read about the Filioque, just reading the Gospels in this version will be a joy due to its simple, straightforward language without sacrificing the meaning and authority of the text. The Patriarchal Text is based on the best preserved available texts from Mount Athos, Greece, where many of them date back ~1500 years. Unlike the Critical Text (NIV) and the Received Text (KJV) yet similar to the Majority Text (WEB), it is arguably superior to them all due to the unbroken tradition of the place where it originates.
