New York Giants: Seventy-Five Years

( 2 )

Overview

In seventy-five years, the Giants have gone from being the team of the working man - willing to brave the sleet, snow, wind, and frozen turf - to the hottest ticket in town. Throughout the years, the Giants have never lost their lunch-pail-thermos-pit-power-against-power grit that inspired the booming chant "DEE-fense-DEE-fense-DEE-fense."

Beginning in 1925 when Tim Mara walked into a bookie's office to buy a prize fighter's contract and walked out the owner of the New York City franchise of the infant NFL, the history of this great team has seen both tough times and dizzying highs. But through it all, the Giants have enjoyed the sort of fan loyalty-and ownership nerve-that keeps a team alive. And what a life it's been: six world championships…countless division titles…the fabled "sneakers game" … "the greatest game ever played" against the '58 Colts…L.T….Written by renowned sports columnist Jerry Izenberg, New York Times: Seventy-Five Years provides a captivating and emotional look at the franchise's first seventy-five years, with personal reflections from many of the team's greatest players and coaches. With a foreword by consummate Giant Frank Gifford, this commemorative edition features over 250 archival images, portfolios of Giants memorabilia, and tributes to legendary Giants players from contributing sports writers and broadcasters, including the former voice of the Giants, Marty Glickman. New York Giants: Seventy-Five Years is a must-have for any die-hard fan of this die-hard team.
