All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
The debut recording by the New York Voices is more impressive for the sound and talent of the group than for the material they perform. A somewhat commercial effort all recent poppish songs other than "'Round Midnight" and "Caravan" given mundane arrangements, this set features the group at a time when they had five vocalists and were clearly hoping to sell a lot of records. One can hear the potential of the vocal ensemble come through, and thankfully most of the material heard on this set has been long discarded. This is a CD that is more intriguing on a historic rather than musical level.

    Refreshing!

I had the pleasure of seeing this group at Patriots Theater on February 13,2004. Unknown to me they came as a WONDERFUL surprise and departure from today's "lack luster music". I am going right out to buy their album(s) and hope they continue in their pursuit of which is, clearly, a natural given talent.

The Great New Sounds of Vocal Jazz

The New York Voices kicked off a new and exciting blend of voices and instruments with this, their first superb vocal jazz album. When they were at Ithaca College they said, ''Dave we are going to make you proud''...and they sure have! The ''Voices'' tease you with a tender ballad and then lift your musical senses to new hights with a driving original piece. Everybody writes in this group! What a fresh concept for vocal jazz performers.
