Editorial Reviews

This third of eight volumes in the set features 21 short, diverse primary accounts (occasionally, fiction cooked up for political aims) of the travels and observations of Mormons and missionaries (1821- 1864), as well as Indian agents and captives (1832-1865) in the early West. Each section contains an introductory perspective, map, present- day names of itinerary localities, entry significance and other annotations, and a travel-time table journalistically summarizing the who, what, when, and how long of each exploration. Estimated daily travel rates range from 6-60 miles. The index to the set will appear in the final volume. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
