Next Generation Knowledge Machines: Design and Architecture [NOOK Book]

Overview

This book delivers the scientific and mathematical basis to treat and process knowledge as a quantifiable and dimensioned entity. It provides the units and measures for the value of information contained in a "body of knowledge" that can be measured, processed, enhanced, communicated and preserved. It provides a basis to evaluate the quantity of knowledge acquired by students at various levels and in different universities. The effect of time on the dynamics and flow of knowledge is tied to Internet knowledge ...

The effect of time on the dynamics and flow of knowledge is tied to Internet knowledge banks and provides the basis for designing and building the next generation of novel machine to appear in society.

This book ties the basic needs of all human beings to the modern machines that resolve such need based on Internet knowledge banks (KBs) distributed throughout nations and societies. The features of the Intelligent Internet are fully exploited to make a new generation of students and knowledge workers use the knowledge resources elegantly and optimally.  It deals with topics and insight into the design and architecture of next-generation computing systems that deal with human and social problems. Processor and Internet technologies that have already revolutionized human lives form the subject matter and the focal point of this book. Information and knowledge on the Internet delivered by next-generation mobile networks form the technical core presented. Human thought processes and adjustments follow the solutions offered by machines.

  • Extends the established practices and designs documented in computer systems to encompass the evolving knowledge processing field
  • Provides an academic and industrial viewpoint of the concurrent dynamic changes in computer and communication industries
  • Presents information for all perspectives, from managers, scientists and researchers
  • Basic concepts can be applied to other disciplines and situations

Meet the Author

The author holds his Ph.D. and D. Sc. (E.E.) degrees from the University of Manchester and his MBA (Econ.) from the New York University. He taught at the University of Colorado for 2 years before joining Bell Laboratories. After 15 years of research, he returned to teaching as a Professor of Computer Science at the City University of New York. The author has been a Telecommunications consultant to Bell Communications Research, AT&T Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies for the last 25 years. He received numerous prizes for his papers from IEEE. He was elected a Fellow of the IEEE for his seminal contribution to the simulation and design studies of the High-speed Digital Subscriber Lines. He has authored and coauthored several books in two broad areas of intelligent AI-based broadband multimedia networks and computational framework for knowledge. His doctoral students have continued to contribute to knowledge processing systems and wisdom machines proposed by him during 1999 to 2007. In 2004, he wrote the book on Scientific Innovation, for new doctoral students based on his teaching and mentoring the best of his 20 Ph.D. students at the Graduate Center of City University of New York. He holds over 20 American and European patents ranging from slip-meters for induction motors to medical networks for hospitals. He was a Visiting Professor of computer science at the University of Hawaii at the Hilo Campus for the year 2009-10 where he worked with Professors Sevki S. Erdogan and Showan M. Rahman to contribute to the art of micro medical processing systems. The author is obliged to Professors Victor B. Lawrence, George S. Moschytz, Bishnu S. Atal, Nikil Jayant, Stanley Habib, Michael Kress, Alfred Levine for reviewing the many technical books written by the author.
