    Discover One of the Greats!

NEXUS was one of the great comics of the 1980s, alongside Frank Miller's work, Alan Moore's and less "commercial" breakout stars who completely changed comics forever. One issue might not sell you on NEXUS, because it is as intelligent and complex a comic as it is unique and truly entertaining (I was in college during the "Stan" storyline and was a nervous wreck waiting for months to see how that story played out--one of many examples of how aspects of this series can keep you coming back for more). NEXUS to this day is always fresh, always fun, and always food for thought on top of suspense, action, and a wit that is Baron's and Baron's alone. Baron and Steve Rude have always deserved the comparison to the creative team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, but take it from me, a fan since 1983: NEXUS is totally a beast of its own. The accolades it's received are not words on paper...this comic is brilliant, and if Baron and Rude did not so obviously create it as a labor of love, you could honestly say "These guys just said 'Hey, let's just throw in a little bit of everything we love and make a comic for the hell of it!'" Maybe they DID do that. Hmm. NEXUS is a glorious parade of science-fiction, philosophy, great references to classic Star Trek and a trillion other pop culture staples (Sid and Nancy!), and just mad but highly literate anything-goes. I love it. Just as excited by new NEXUS today as I was as a teen! LOVE AND ROCKETS is a distant second on my must-buy list...I hope that tells you something! I was thrilled when iO9 recently had NEXUS on a list of SF comics that could go to the big screen if GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is a hit! Yow! If you like the music of Rush, look at NEXUS this way. Mike Baron is Neil Peart hammering together a tough, heartfelt backdrop while Steve Rude's art is as impossibly near-perfect as Geddy Lee's bass playing, and as bright and deep as the best guitar work of Alex Lifeson. And like Rush...NEXUS holds up fine after the synthesizer-filled 80s! Baron and Rude are still telling this great tale. Print, digital...NEXUS is a work to behold and you will acquire the taste for it if you give it a chance.
