As a student of American Indian history I have found few books as detailed as The Nez Perce Indians and the Opening of the Northwest. It is a well documented account of the systematic attempted destruction of a culture. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This is a remarkable work for its concise and complete history of the Indian people of the Pacific Northwest. With an emphasis on the Nez Perce it put their history of interaction with British, American, and French traders, missionaries, gold seekers and settlers into context with the other tribes that shared the area now known as the states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
A must read for anyone interested in the history rather than the myth of the indigenous people of this region.
