Game is not responsive, I have to tap multiple times to get the tools to work. Graphics are very dark and the hint feature doesn't work while playing the puzzles. Wish I would have saved my money.

    Great game, but too buggy

What's the point of a game that hangs up before you finish it? There are several known issues, so don't buy it until they've been fixed.

    Not so good

Game freezes...very frustrating! Directions to puzzles are poor and no hint or skip buttons to help out. Graphics are fun, but not interesting enough to give it a higher rating. Sorry Big Fish. I usually like your games!

Nick Chase: A Dectective Story (The Game Review)

I would give this game a very high score for art direction, music, voice acting, the lovely Art Deco style and the overall Noir feel of the game. However, "Nick Chase: A Detective Story" is not perfect, and there are problems that decrease the overall score. I will address this part later.

I just loved the Detective Noir style layout even when I was not solving a puzzle. The Art Deco style used in the animation (game & story) was beautiful and amazing. I feel that the Noir and the Art Deco have been blended so that they complement each other rather than compete for attentioMost of the dialogue was easy to follow & it moved the story along quickly. It also introduced characters. I wish there were more character development lines. (Nick Chase, for example.)

The in-game voice actors and musical accompaniment worked well with the game. Most of the time, I just turn the volume off so that I am not disturbed by bad acting and bad music that often has no bearing on any particular gameplay scene. In this app it really works to enhance the game.

In between gameplay scenes, there were pages that appeared to be ripped right out of a classic noir detective book. It is a great way to break up all that non/linear thinking of gameplayers, and to tell us a story in an interesting way .

In a clever way, the dialogue & story are told by using two pages (at a time) of comic book style block on a digital paper book that "lights-up & fills-in" one by one. The result, is that the flow of the story continues to steadily move forward. The colors used in this section are subdued black, white, red, and gray. This featured interlude was clever enough to keep me entertained and interested. I would have liked more backstory for Nick Chase. The in game music and voice overs were appropriate for the setting and story.

The mini-games were fun to play. I was able to solve the majority of the puzzles, including flashbacks, gears, etc. However, I still needed that "skip" button. I was frustrated that "hints" and "skips" would appear and dissappear seemingly randomly.

My major complaints have to do with game freezes. For example. I got stuck in the print shop. I had the cards made I was just waiting for the words golden cats to turn into a stamp auto matically. I did a soft boot and hard boot to my Nook Tablet. It did nor work. So I archived it, and unarchived. Then I re installed it. I was able to make the Golden Cats card. It froze up a few other times as well. For now all I had to do was reboot my Nook.

Tapping an object is a simple matter on a touch screen. I shpuld not have to tap the same thing 20 times. Its frustrating. It needs an update with a patch to fix the issue asap. Please fix and my rating will improve.
