Overview

Nicky Epstein, needlework star and bestselling author of the Essential Edgings series, turns her passionate eye to the techniques and traditions behind the craft of knitting around the world. In this combination travel guide and pattern book, Epstein takes stitchers on a global tour, examining varying approaches to the art of needlework across cultures.

Epstein explains the traditional uses of a range of techniques such as colorwork, cables, lace, intarsia and more before demonstrating how these can be incorporated into modern designs. The result: more than 40 all-new, innovative designs collected in this beautiful gift edition with a handy ribbon marker. There’s a Celtic Pullover with braided twisted rib strips; a Snowflake Tunic from the Far North; a Felted Tyrolean Capelet with appliqué, cord, and balls; a Spanish Rose Pullover with lace accents; a multi-color Peruvian skirt; and an oversized, zip-up Navajo Blanket Jacket.

Epstein’s books have been praised by Booklist contributors Barbara Jacobs and Ilene Cooper, and have been regular selections of The Crafter’s Choice Book Club.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Prolific knitwear designer Epstein (the "Edgings" series) applies her considerable skill and knowledge to knitwear patterns inspired by geographic locales and informed by local traditions. The garments and accessories in this book include an Orenburg lace-inspired camisole, several sweaters using Fair Isle colorwork techniques, and an Aran-knitted jacket with knitted rose embellishments. With its emphasis on colorwork and surface design, this isn't a book for beginner knitters, but knitters looking for a challenge will appreciate the beautiful designs. As educational as it is creative; essential for knitting collections.

A Must Have for your Knitting Library

I highly recommend this book be added to any knitter's library whether he's a new knitter or she's an old hand at the skill. If all else fails, this book makes a wonderful coffee table book for knitters in the know.

New knitters may require assistance with their first attempts using this book but it is well worth it.

    Beautiful Book

Nicky Epstein goes above and beyond in this book. Yes, there is alot of over the top projects, but someone once told me "life is too short for the ordinary". There are alot of everyday wearable and you could also modify with her help.. Great book.
