Sprache, Literatur, Landeskunde, Note: 2,0, Universität Augsburg, Veranstaltung: Afrika in Lateinamerika, 5 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Anmerkungen: Die Arbeit bietet einen Zusamenfassenden Überblick über die Gedichte des kubanischen Nationaldichters Nicolás Guillén, über sein Leben und seine Beziehung zu den afrikanischen Wurzeln der kubanischen Bevölkerung. , Abstract: Nicolás Guillén ist sowohl heute als auch schon zu Lebzeiten wohl einer der bekanntesten und berühmtesten kubanischen Dichter, der auch außerhalb Kubas sehr geschätzt wird. Seine Werke waren neu und anders als die bisherigen und prägten die kubanische Dichtung des 20. Jahrhunderts enorm. Anders als bisherige mulattische Schriftsteller aus Kuba bekannte sich Guillén zu seinen Wurzeln, die einerseits in Europa lagen, andererseits jedoch auch in Afrika. Vor allem die Auseinandersetzung mit seiner afrikanischen Herkunft war etwas neues, da er sie als ein Teil des kubanischen Volkes sah und sie, anders als die bisherigen Dichter, völlig klischeefrei untersuchte.
Die „Mestizaje", also die Vermischung der Europäischen und der Afrikanischen Rasse, ist eines der Hauptthemen von Guillén's Dichtung. Schon seit seinem ersten berühmten Gedichtband Motivos de Son von 1930 behandelt er immer wieder dieses Thema, was ihn später auch zu Kuba's Poeta Naciolal werden lies . Dies wurde er auch, weil er den Zucker-Kolonialismus, also die Ausbeutung der Zuckerrohrfelder durch die USA vor der Revolution in seinen Gedichten ( u.a. West Indies, Ltd. 1934 ) massiv anprangerte.
Guillen beschränkte sich in seiner Dichtung jedoch nicht nur auf Kuba, sondern er behandelte später auch Themen und Probleme zunächst des ganzen karibischen Raumes, danach auch fast ganz Nord- und Südamerikas. Auch in diesen Gedichten sind die Hauptthemen Rassenstreit, Armut, Ausbeutung und Mestizaje in den jeweiligen Ländern.
