Overview

One hundred years after the Great Surchatain Roman of Lystra . . .
At the spring fair, the beautiful Chataine Renée meets 17-year-old Nicole, daughter of a humble tailor, and insists that she come for a visit to the palace at Westford. Raised in a peasant village on the coast, Nicole is unprepared for the sophistication and treachery of palace life—but her father has decreed that she shall not come home without a rich or noble husband.

Nicole’s prospects include Counselor Carmine, handsome but disinterested; Commander Ares, who carries the pain of his past; and possibly even Surchatain Cedric himself. But these are dark times for Lystra, and Nicole discovers that in the presence of evil, even good men may veil the truth.

Nicole of Prie Mer is Book One of the Latter Annals of Lystra. The story continues in Book Two: Ares of Westford.

Editorial Reviews

Cheryl Bader
Nicole is drawn into a delicious package of court intrigue and espionage, abduction and rescue. With several unexpected twists, the story gallops to a surprising and satisfying ending.

It should appeal to readers of fantasy. In keeping with the exuberant style, it does include numerous sexual references. The Christian themes are understated. The novel avoids obvious religious themes, instead illustrating a Christian worldview through themes of honor, respect, loyalty and serving others.
Joyce Handzo
Robin Hardy is skilled at giving her readers treasures of truth in ordinary packages. The marriage and eventual love between Nicole and Ares is an example. Why would a beautiful young woman marry a disfigured man? The reader is then shown what lies behind the face of Commander Ares and realizes that people are more than what is seen from the outside. Nicole is seen standing for truth, which may not always be obvious. Readers will be thrilled with her choices.
Mellanie Crowther
In Ares, Hardy has created a hero worthy of the title. Ares is a one-woman man, and once he claims Nicole, no other will do. The machinations of Cedric threaten their relationship, but Ares' strength and devotion are matched in intensity by Nicole's kindness and determination. The love scenes are by turns tumultuous and tender. Hardy excels at giving just enough information to keep things moving, and yet surprising readers when what they know is put into place in her multi-faceted plot.

    New Adventures

Robin Hardy takes her readers back to Lystra for more medieval adventures in the first of another series. One hundred years have passed since Roman and Deirdre ruled, but the royal court is still full of adventure and intrigue. And, with Ares and Nicole, there is love, heartache and romance in abundance.

I always love Robin's heroes, and Ares is certainly no exception. Scarred inside and out, he is a strong, fierce, gentle warrior-protector and perfect romantic hero.

    The Story of Lystra Continues--

When seventeen-year-old Nicole of Prie Mer set out to visit the Chataine Renee, the charge from her poor but honorable father to marry well was a burden she could hardly manage. The intricacies of palace life along with her own trusting naivete made matters that much worse. Yet somehow, Nicole's sweet and honest nature and good heart see her through. Hardy makes her long-awaited return to the award-winning Lystra story vibrant, refreshing and surprisingly new. She once again relates the struggles of good and evil with the affection, humor and humanness that characterize the greatest stories of our time. No previous experience with the Annals of Lystra are necessary; Nicole of Prie Mer stands alone in its own right, but readers familiar with Hardy's previous works will be delighted with the first book in the Latter Annals of Lystra.
