Emelie is betrothed to marry the dark elf king.
Any ordinary woman would consider it a faerytale come true.

When Emelie Andersdotter learns the outcome of a decades-long war hinges on her arranged marriage to an infamous royal known for his dark reputation, she sees no choice but to accept her fate. Resigned to her unavoidable destiny, she travels to her parents' ancestral home under the protection of a trusted family friend, where she prepares to navigate a world ruled by dark magic, mystery, and intrigue.

Meet the Author

JD Nelson lives in California with her husband and three cats who think they're dogs. Always short on time, she has long ago mastered the art of procrastination, and was recently crowned Procrastinator of the Year by her editor, which is only slightly better than her being voted Most likely to waste time by watching Vampire Movies by her readers last year. All jokes aside, JD is a boringly normal person who thinks that coffee pretty much fixes everything, as long as it's before 6:30AM. When she's not spending time with her amazing husband (also a form of procrastinating), you can find her writing (not procrastinating!), reading (ahem...procrastinating), or on her commute to her day job (necessary procrastinating).

    Recommended!

    Night Aberrations

Note: This book is strongly suggested for a mature crowd 18+
Not recommended for younger readers due to sexual content and language.

For those of you who know me, you know that some of my favorite series are Laurell K. Hamilton’s Meredith Gentry & Anita Blake series, Larissa Ione’s Demonica Series and of course J.R Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood, all of these beloved series contain just about the same amount of language and sexual content as Night Aberrations, which is why I found it to be a quite an enjoyable read! Lately YA have been all the uproar, but when you come across books like Night Aberrations, at least if your age appropriate that is, it can be quite a relief and reminder that there isn’t just YA paranormal but also paranormal directed towards a more mature crowd.

The plot was interesting as you don’t see many that mix in different aspects of the paranormal, such as light elves, dark elves, wolves and the son of Odin? Yes this was definitely unique in itself. I found it refreshing and invigorating.

Emelie has lost her parents, and shortly after learns the truth about herself and about what they did that changed her own fate, literally. I was surprised that her own parents could do such a thing, well more directly her mother! I know you may be asking yourself, “What is this girl talking about” Unfortunately, I can not say, I wouldn’t want to ruin the plot for you, but if I have you wondering then I am pleased because this means you are more likely to pick up a copy for yourself. From the beginning I was really drawn in, and especially found an interest in Soren’s character, I found myself laughing towards the end, because in the beginning we see Emelie calling Soren “uncle”, the reason that this is funny to me…. well you have to read it to find out, but I assure you, you will find yourself laughing at this little bit too.

The characters were well developed, as I did not find myself wondering about each of their personalities. I am very fortunate that JD Nelson allowed me to read and review this book. Now onto the bigger question: Do I recommend this book? Yes, without a doubt in my mind, if you found an interest in any of the series that I listed above, you will find yourself diving into this book. The next book in the series is due to come out sometime in Spring 2013, so keep your eyes peeled, I for one can not wait to see what juicy scenes and obstacles await for the characters.

The Author's description of the characters, mood of the settin

The Author's description of the characters, mood of the settings and simply fun sassiness at every turn paints, a perfect visual picture for me to get lost in. I read books like watching movies in my head and not every Author can create that magic for me. Night Aberrations, the first book in a new series by JD Nelson, has left me wanting more! More Emelie, more Soren (swoon) and most of all, more of the horn-dog wolf Nils!! I can't wait to see Emelie cast HIS fate! Will they all live happily ever after?
Great first book for this talented new writer! Thank Goodness she is working on the second book in the series right now!!

Destined to steal your heart - and a little bit more.

From the very beginning you are swept up into a world that is a marvelous mix of Norse mythology, elvish wonder, and sultry passion. Your heart will be pulled into different directions as Emelie's is - caught between what (and whom) she wants and what she feels she must do and who she must become.
The stories intense, complex characters and scenes of unadulterated passion and sensuality, are a perfect combination for a modern romantic fantasy destined to steal your heart, and a little bit more.

I very rarely pick up a book that I can literally read overnight because I simply cannot put it down, and this book does just that! This is a paranormal romance for adults, and it is STEAMY! I fell in love with the main Charecter Emelie almost instantly! The charecters are so well thought out, and the plot and storyline are flawless!

Night Aberrations is a very entertaining start to the series! Even as a male reader, the story grabbed me and didn't turn me loose until the end. This is a must read for any mature reader that likes a little fantasy with their romance.

Cue your vinyl LP of Mary MacGregor, and let's sit down for a chat. I loved this book and when I say loved, I mean LOVED...all caps, underscored, roses flying in the air...you get my drift. First off, I really liked Emelie. Emelie was well-written, and easy to identify with. Secondly, JD Nelson did an outstanding job of making me love the two male characters, Soren and Kristian. Normally, that's not possible for me. I always root for one person and secretly hope the other falls off a cliff or something equally as tragic. Take for example, Twilight, I wanted Jacob Black to be torn from paw-to-paw by his wolf pack when he was on the same page with my beloved Edward. Don't get me wrong, I'm clearly in one person's camp (not telling whom because I'm evil like that), but Nelson did an exceptional job of making me wonder if I should switch teams. Dang her, dang her for messing with my emotions. Anyway, I gave this book 5-stars for originality, smokin' hot love scenes, and that page-turner quality that you've got to have. Read the book, if anything, to find out who Emelie picks in the end. Congrats, JD Nelson. A wonderful debut novel!

I received this book to give an honest review.
Wow! This book was a quick and fun read for me. I found myself not only liking the attitude that Emelie has but really liking Nils as the side character.
When I first started reading this I was kind of thinking okay what is going on a bit being as Emelie loses her parents and she is just waiting to die. But it all started to make sense as to what Emelie is, and what her destiny entitles her to do. Emelie is to marry the Dark Elf King and of course she just finds this out but he is not her true mate. It is the person that is awfully close to her. With her having to marry the Dark Elf King there is also another creature out there that is wanting her dead and he will get as close as he can to her. The fairies in this one are more different creatures they actually have fangs which is new.

With the magic, sex, humor and a great story plot I am waiting for book 2 to be out. I want to see more of where this story is going to go.

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies Night Aberrations offe

    Reviewer: Bex
Rating: 4 out of 5 Fairies

Night Aberrations offers an entertaining and gripping read. J.D. Nelson creates an array of characters who are armed with a variety of personality traits and strengths. She develops her characters, especially Emelie, the main character in a fascinating way, taking the reader along an intriguing concept for a story.

Overall, Night Aberrations, was a thoroughly enjoyable read. It kept me engaged, remained interesting, was fun and sexy while also having elements of darkness to it. A very fascinating paranormal read. At times the story felt a little rushed. The character developed very fast and I was on the occasion left wondering if I'd skipped ahead a few pages. While it had this level of speed, this did not prevent me from enjoying the characters of intriguing plot development.

Night Aberrations is definitely a series I will be following.

I absolutely LOVED JD Nelson's Night Aberrations!! This book kept me so hooked that I didn't put it down until I was done! I have always loved mythology, but haven't read much to do with Norse mythology. I very much enjoyed my trip into Svartálfaheim and the characters were wonderful. Soren is quite the hot hero, but my favorite has to be Nils. I can't wait to read his story!!!
