Both the film and its novelization are sequels to the 2006 box office winner and New York Times best-selling novelization, Night at the Museum. In this new book, the good-hearted dreamer Larry Daley must say good-bye to his famous friends from history who magically came to life during closing hours at New York's Natural History Museum. They are being replaced by virtual hologram exhibits, and the originals have been packed up and shipped off to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Then, Larry learns that the ancient Egyptian tablet of Ahkmenrah was also shipped by mistake, which allows the new acquisitions to come back to life! Among them are an evil ancient pharaoh, Ivan the Terrible of Czarist Russia, the American gangster Al Capone, France's Emperor Napoleon, and the famous woman pilot Amelia Earhart. It's Larry's job to stop a nefarious plot by evil-doers in that group. Fortunately, Larry gets vital help from Amelia Earhart. Here's a delightful concoction of comedy, adventure, and fantasy that kids won't want to put down until they've reached the last page.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sarah Knight
This book chronicles the second adventure of Larry Daley, the night guard who previously discovered that the New York Natural History Museum came to life at night. The second installment of Night at the Museum begins with Larry no longer employed as a museum night guard. Instead, he has become a successful entrepreneur who promotes various products. However, Larry discovers that despite his material success, he misses his low-paying, yet rewarding job at the museum. On returning to the New York Natural History Museum to visit his friends, Larry learns that they are being shipped to a different museum, the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. Although Larry attempts to stop their transfer, he cannot do so. After their transfer, Larry discovers that his beloved museum friends are in terrible danger. The danger includes Octavius, Sacajawea, Attila the Hun, and Jed. Larry rushes to the Smithsonian to save his friends, and a new adventure begins with even more historical characters coming to life at night. The evil pharaoh Kahmunrah comes to life and takes Larry's friends hostage as part of his attempt to overtake the world. The pharaoh enlists the help of Al Capone, Ivan the Terrible, and Napoleon. Larry meets new acquaintances at the Smithsonian who awaken to help him defeat the pharaoh. Amelia Earhart, General Custard, and Abraham Lincoln are among the new friends that Larry discovers. Part adventure, part fantasy and part comedy, this tale is an enjoyable read for young readers. Accompanied by pictures from the movie, this book offers great detail for young fantasy readers.
