This illustrated poem The Night Before Christmas In Texas That Is has been a favorite of mine since it was published in 1952. I had never had a copy of it so I was thrilled to purchase it when I saw it in Barnes and Noble just before Christmas. I enjoyed reading it with my grandchildren and will do it each year. This book would be a much enjoyed addition to anyone's Christmas book collection whether you're a Texan or not.

I grew up in Dallas in the 40's and 50's when all the big department stores had wonderful themed Christmas displays in the store windows. What beautiful and fun windows the stores provided the magic that is Christmas for little ones. In 1952 A.Harris Department Store in downtown Dallas used this poem as their theme. It was told and illustrated in their big windows and their Santa was dressed in Levi's, cowboy boots and hat.

It was a special time to grow up. My parents though not rich still filled our Christmases with many happy memories of The Christ Child, singing carols, and Santa Claus. The day after Thanksgiving we always went downtown to see the store windows and Santa who didn't arrive until that day at the stores. I have tried to pass these memories along to my children and now my grandchildren.
