Do you know how hard it is to find books that are illustrated that might truly be of interest to an Afro-American child? Try to find a book that is illustrated with an appropriate role model! It isn't easy! But, I had two Afro-American children to shop for this past December and I was determined to find just the right book...and I did. An old story with amazing illustrations! Isadora's The Night Before Christmas was 100% what I was looking for...and one of the children that I gave it to still reads it daily. I know that he can relate to the illustrations...so, Isadora's The Night Before Christmas lasts beyond the night before Christmas...and I challenge more authors and illustrators to keep the Afro-American child in mind when creating for today's young readers...and, BTW, I am not Afro-American...just sensitive to diversity...and a child's self image! Was this review helpful?
