Overview

Night Fighters chronicles the historical, technological, tactical and strategic evolution of limited visibility aerial combat between Great Britain and Germany during WW II. The subjects interviewed for his project were the key individuals responsible for the creation and execution of their respective national policies governing the conduct of the nocturnal air war. The science developed by both nations assisted in increasing the momentum and lethality of that conflict. This arena of WW II produced a plethora of technological innovations, the results of which are seen today in everyday military and civilian life. This book provides a detailed historical analysis of the men, methods, machines and devices that forever altered the course of aviation and scientific history. Where this book differs from previous works is the collective and extensive interviews with the participants of the air war, in their own words. This book also provides an impartial, comparative and contrasting analysis of both sides, and is endorsed by the historical figures. C

Is there, or can there be any better book on this topic?

I was stunned at just how detailed, accurate, and balanced this book was. Almost every book I have ever read on history provides some bias, which is almost inevitable. This book broke the mold. Not only have the authors interviewed the men on both sides of the air war, they spoke and met with some of the most important men in history. This is amazing, and readers who like this subject will not be disappointed. The history of the air air, the evolution of the events, the technology development, and the tactical and strategic considerations are all interwoven into a wonderfully concise yet informative package. Outstanding.

Best Book Ever on Both sides of the Air War at Night

This book astounded me me, not so much from the data that it contains, which is exceptional, detailed, well-researched and very gripping. I was more amazed that the author appears to be very young, to be a professor and yet he has also managed to become friends with so many of these great pilots, even interviewing them. I located some of the original interviews online through the old magazines he wrote for, and they were the best first person stories I ever read. I actually have been a subscriber for over a decade, and know his name well. Seeing the author in photos with Hajo Herrmann, Wolf Falck, and seeing the interviews with men such as these, as well as Adolf Galland, Hans-Joachim Jabs, Jimmy Doolittle, Curtis LeMay, Bill Reid, and many others only enhaces the credibility. If you like this subject, you will not be disappointed, I assure you.

The best book I have ever read on the subject

This was beyond all doubt the best book I have ever read regarding the air war in Europe between the British and Germans. The book is very unique in the fact that the authors used first person interviews with some of the most famous and highly decorated airmen on both sides of the war. What is most antithetical to all previous publications I have read is the argument regarding the failure of the Allies to bomb the concentration camps and railways in the east, hence creating one of the greatest conspiracy theories in history. I also found that the authors' inclusion of certain missions, statistics and first person experiences make the book come alive. I would like to see this as a TV documentary.
