Plot
This is a fast-paced novel set between L.A., San Francisco, Bangkok and Tokyo, and features people fighting against seemingly impossible circumstances to come together and find a love that was lost long ago for some, and keep a newfound love alive for others.

After a bitter divorce, Melissa finds love in a same-sex relationship, but this further alienates her from her daughter. Melissa is obsessive about winning back Amy’s love and after years of rejection proposes a truce and a plan for reconciliation. Everybody is supposed to come together in a neutral location to get reacquainted with each other – a sort of vacation where they could all rediscover each other and maybe find a way to rekindle lost feelings of mother – daughter love. All the participants to this ill-conceived plan reluctantly agree, but from the outset, events conspire against the trio. This is the story of how each person deals with the events life deals them.

Main Characters
Melissa Adams – A divorced mother who is estranged from her only daughter.
Amy Adams – Melissa’s daughter who blames her mother for breaking up their family.
Kathy Murray – Aircraft mechanic who falls in love with Melissa; they establish a relationship with each other after Melissa’s divorce.
Conrad Weathers – Befriends Melissa in Japan and complicates the relationship between the women.

Excerpt
Melissa couldn’t stop herself from looking out the 747’s window. Dusk turned to night, and the only thing visible out her window was the red glow of the wingtip light that bounced impossibly up and down as the plane jerked more frequently and violently. A buzzing grew in her ears drowning out every other sound. Even pushing her hands to her ears had no effect; no amount of pressure kept the noise out. It was as if it was inside her head and if it didn’t stop, her head would burst. Kathy sat calmly beside her and smiled, mouthing the words ‘It’s fine,’ even though Melissa could no longer hear her.

I’m dreaming, she told herself. I know I’m dreaming. The plane pitched up and pressed her hard against the seatback, then pitched down and dove hundreds of feet, forcing her forward against the seatbelt. The plane rolled left, and just as it seemed it was going to go all the way over onto its back, it turned violently to the right. Please wake up, please wake up Melissa repeated, but she couldn’t stop the nightmare.

The high-pitched sound of ripping metal forced Melissa to look out the window again, just in time to see the wing tear away and fly off into the pitch-black sky trailing a shower of sparks behind it, the red wingtip light still lit up. Panicked, she turned to Kathy who kept telling her it was fine; the other passengers were calmly chatting with each other, smiling, playing with their children. “What’s wrong with you people!” she screamed. “Wake up, Oh, God, please let me wake up!”
