Overview

An earthquake shook the small town of Coyote Pass, Texas causing a blackout. The ground was cracked for miles. A shrouded figure crept out of one of the fissures.

The members of the Cottonwood Pack think the blackout is really cool, especially since it hit on Halloween night. They load two cases of beer and a Ouija board into a minivan. Drive to the abandoned Dark Road Cemetery hoping to conjure up a ghost or two.

Something much more terrifying is already there.

Excerpt:

Five miles from the New Mexico border, an earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale shook the small town of Coyote Pass, Texas at exactly 6 PM causing a blackout. The ground was cracked for miles. A shrouded figure crept out of one of the fissures. It walked upright like a human being; loose, saggy folds of grayish-white skin jiggled with each step. Green mucus oozed from its nostrils. Gnarled hands with thick fingers ended in claws as sharp as its teeth. Pointed ears. No hair. Poor eyesight. Living in a contaminated underground environment heightened other senses. It had been following a food source through a series of tunnels when both emerged out of a wide gap on the surface. It stood transfixed. Gazed up at millions of shiny dots. It reached high, and tried to grab a handful. Tried again. Gave a low growl.

Meet the Author

Sharon is a suspense writer. Avid cyclist. Loves being on the water, the great outdoors, and antique and classic cars.

She is the author of three novels in the Backwoods Justice series — CAPTIVITY, BETRAYAL, PAYBACK: Interwoven tales of kidnapping, murder, and revenge in a small, tourist town.

In THE CAJUN GIRL, a young debut author trapped in an unhappy marriage embarks on a killing spree, by means of witchcraft, in order to put together enough gruesome details to write a realistic fiction story, which she believes will help her find the freedom and independence she yearns for.
