Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathie M. Josephs
Everyone know what a dust bunny is, but in this story, the Dust Bunnies appear in a filthy, dirty house when three little friends go out to get Halloween candy and leave the sonic light on. Before they leave the house one of the children writes "I'm stupid" on the dusty table. The light attracted the dust bunnies and when they arrive they want to eat. You would think they would raid the refrigerator or go for food, but they eat the children who are out trick or treating. This could upset a young reader. The story line was not interesting. Fifteen pages show the Dust Bunnies eating the little kids in costumes. The three that started out together called each other names including "big ears" and "idiot." In fact, in most of the book there is name calling. When there is an argument between the three friends as to why they hadn't been able to get any candy that night, they were pretty hard on Henri. Andy wants to go and apologize to Henri about what they had said and how they acted; however, Franken says no and he doesn't care. There is bathroom talk that is not necessary and right up to the last page, the three are still calling each other names. I do not recommend this book as it has not purpose to it. This book is geared for younger children and in my opinion the author did not keep the age in mind when using name calling, bad manners, and inappropriate bathroom talk. "Stone Rabbit" #6.
