Overview

Introducing sleuth Pepper Martin...

And now, in her fourth hip, quirky mystery, she's all ours.

Pepper Martin, heiress-turnedcemetery- tour-guide, often has her hands full with two hotties and the ghosts who won't let her rest-or work, or shop-in peace.

Now the specter of a young woman in a lab coat wants Pepper's help. Before the woman died, she worked with a sexy, mysterious doctor who coincidentally once saved Pepper's life-and who the woman claims is now in danger. But Pepper doesn't know that there's more to the story, including a devious doctor-and an obsessive, crazy love.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Sass and the supernatural cross paths in the entertaining fourth Penelope "Pepper" Martin mystery (after 2007's Tombs of Endearment). Perky, fashion-conscious Pepper, a Cleveland cemetery tour guide and PI for the dead, hopes for a reprieve from ghostly visitors while at a cemetery conference in Chicago. Instead, she lands a gig representing the ghost of snide researcher Madeline Tremayne. Madeline warns that saintly psychologist Dr. Hilton Gerard is working on a shady study-patients go in but they don't come out-and Dan Callahan, his assistant and Pepper's occasional savior, is unwittingly poised to take the fall. Pepper proves once again that great style, quick wit and a sharp eye can solve any mystery, though the rushed conclusion is a little over the top and may disappoint series fans. (Jan.)

Meet the Author

Casey Daniels

Casey Daniels once applied for a job as a tour guide in a cemetery. She didn't get the job, but she did get the idea for the Pepper Martin mystery series. Casey learned to love mysteries early thanks to her father, a Cleveland Police detective who enjoyed Sherlock Holmes stories and spent his days off searching for stolen cars—with Casey along for the ride. Later, she read her way through every mystery on the library shelves. Casey has a degree in English and a background in journalism and teaching.

    ...Loving Dead

I purchased this book thinking it had the potential to be the same-old-same-old and was presently surprised. Pepper hits the road and runs into not more of the same, but an entirely different set of problems. For this time, she gets to walk in someone else's shoes...and doesn't like what she sees. FYI: Do yourself a favor and purchase Dead Man Talking too. Reality TV, convicts, the dead, and the upper crust...what's not to love?

    Paranormal and Murder

Pepper Martin is on a business trip in Chicago at a cemetery conference. She thought she left all the ghosts behind, but Madeline, a young woman in a lab coat, asks Pepper to help Dan Callahan. Madeline says he's in danger. Madeline is difficult to deal with, and as Pepper starts looking into things, she finds out they are much more complicated than Madeline made them out to be. Dr. Hilton Gerard, Dan's boss, is using him as the fall guy for misappropriation of funds and Dan doesn't know it.

When a very bizarre twist of events happens, Pepper finds it ever more challenging to investigate than normal. Can she help Dan as well as herself?

I love this series. While I'm not big into ghosts, I find these books to be well-written and enjoyable. I usually laugh out loud through them.

Pepper is such a likeable character, and her interactions with the ghosts are hilarious. I can't wait for the next book! I highly recommend this book and series.

    Sneaky, Lying Ghosts!

Night of the Loving Dead is the fourth installment in the Pepper Martin Mystery Series. Pepper is in Chicago for a cemetery convention in Ella's place. After all that Ella has done for her Pepper doesn't mind being stuck with a bunch of cemetery enthusiasts......too much. Unfortunately for Pepper, her Gift isn't restricted to just Cleveland, OH. During the very first day at the convention, Pepper bumps into the ghost of Madeline Tremayne.

Madeline says that she needs Pepper's help because Dan is tied up in some "research" program funded by a doctor who isn't using federal aid money the way he should. If Pepper doesn't do her level best to prove to Dan that he's going to go down with the good doctor, Dan will be spending the rest of his days behind federal bars. Pepper is thrown into an investigation that is way more than it looks at face value. And Pepper finds out that not all ghosts are asking for her help to move onto the Great Beyond.

This book was great. I can't wait for the next one to be released, but I've got a little bit of a wait. I'm no fashionista, but I do connect with Pepper. She's a great character. I've also come to care for the secondary characters as well. I hope this is a series that lasts awhile.

The Night of the Loving Dead is a hit!

The newest book in the Pepper Martin series adds new twists to already interesting series. Pepper can talk and see the dead, but this is a whole new level. More romance in this book, than the previous ones, but it is overdue. A really good read.

    Great Ghostly Fun!

The Pepper Martin mystery series just keeps getting better and better. In this, the fourth installment, Pepper is supposed to be attending a cemetery conference in Chicago. Knowing she'll be bored, she agrees to take on a case for an annoying ghost named Madeline. Once she does, she finds out that not everything is as it seems--and that Madeline has an agenda that might put Pepper out of the picture...permanently!

I love everything about these books. Pepper is a unique character. She's not the brightest bulb in the box, but she's got heart. Snappy dialogue and a plot with just enough twists and turns makes this book a winner!

a charming amusing paranormal amateur sleuth tale

Cemetery tour guide Pepper Martin was in the Garden View Cemetery when she knocked her head accidentally on a tombstone. When she regained consciousnesses, she was able to see ghosts; spirits of those who were murdered and unable to move on. They demand Pepper find their killers and bring them to justice so they can pass peacefully to the next level. She reluctantly investigates the claims because when she refuses they haunt her every living moment.

When Pepper goes to Chicago on business, she stops at the Greenland Cemetery where she meets the spirit of lab coated Madeline Tremayne, who pleads with her that their mutual friend Dr. Dan Callahan is in danger from his boss Dr. Hilton Gerard who is using him as the fall guy for the Feds to devour for their inquiry into misappropriation of funds. Knowing Dan once saved her life and how painfully persistent ghosts are, Pepper investigates learning that Dr. Dan is working on a new program in which the disenfranchised enter but never leave. As she obtains proof of the goings-on, a malevolent spirit turns Pepper into one of the disenbidied unable to help anyone even herself.

Anyone who believes communicating with ghosts would be fun, need to ask the heroine whose experience with the ¿gift¿ leaves her traumatic and seemingly always in danger; this is not sharing tea or lattes. Still her courage and desire, albeit reluctant, to help others endears Pepper to the reader. Her latest investigation is fast-paced, dangerous and somewhat personal; as NIGHT OF THE LOVING DEAD is a charming amusing paranormal amateur sleuth.
