Overview

Vampires, werewolves, witches, shapeshifters — they live among us without our knowledge. Night World is their secret society, a secret society with very strict rules. And falling in love breaks all the laws of the Night World.

In Secret Vampire, Poppy thought the summer would last forever. Then she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Now Poppy's only hope for survival is James, her friend and secret love. A vampire in the Night World, James can make Poppy immortal. But first they both must risk everything to go against the laws of Night World.

Fugitives from Night World, three vampire sisters leave their isolated home to live among humans in Daughters of Darkness. Their brother, Ash, is sent to bring the girls back, but he falls in love with their beautiful friend.

Two witch cousins fight over their high school crush. It's a battle between black magic and white magic in Spellbinder.

    Worth the read.

Some of the stories are better then others... I loved the daughters of the darkness. Each story has a nice pull and for the most part keeps you interested. But i wouldn't recommend it as a rereader. It's good but somtimes still lacking ful interst. Overall I'd say read but don't be overly excited.

    Disappointed

I am an adult who is absolutely addicted to these fantasy stories. What I did not like about this book, and did not purchase the rest of them, is that the stories are like three short stories in one book. There was some overlap in the last two stories in that there is one character in common, but did not play that big of a part in the story. I would much rather have had the stories contain the same characters, carrying over into each book. The stories were original and quite charming in some places. The author is a great story teller and I have read other books of hers. I just did not care for the short story style of this book and assumed the others would be the same.

    Compeling

I have loved the super natural for as long as I can remember. So when I first picked up Night World, I thought it was going to be just another love story about how two people cant be together for this reason or that. I could not have been more wrong. The Night World series is about love, but there is so much more to it than that. The story line is so intricatly woven that it would be nearly imposible to read out of order. These books are wonderful and I would recomend them to anyone who either loves the super natural like I do, or to those who are just interested.

Secret Vampire was captivating. Daughters of Darkness was unforgetable. And Spellbinder was intriguing.

These books are obsesion worthy, and deserve to be read over and over countless times. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope I helped you in some way decideing whether or not you intend to read this wonderful book.

    Love The Night World!!!

This is a great series of 9 smaller books. Books 1-3, 4-6 & 7-9 are in 3 bigger books (omnibus versions).
I love this series and can not wait for the release of the 3rd book (April 2009) that has books 7-9 in it.

    Pretty Good

Okay well i read these books thinking that they were going to be a vampire diaries kind of series, but it turns out that theyre just short stories. But i still loved them. You find yourself loving the the characters and storyline. You can also kind of relate to the some characters to a certain point, like with poppy and why she turns (sorry if i spoiled the story to anyone). The only thing that i did not like is that the stories end before you know it! I wish thst L.J smith could have added more to each story, because i was left wanting to know what happens in each persons life and of course wanting more romance between the two characters. But overall a great read:)

    Mesmerizing

I picked this up thinking,"Hm, I've read Vampire Diaries. I'll read this one." I wasn't disappointed. I really like this series. All though my favorite book in this set was the second one Daughters of Darkness. I love the concept of true love conquers all and the soul mate principal. I also love how the stories coincide(these are the only ones). You basically meet half of the main characters to the second and third book in the first book. There were well written and had me on the edge of the seat.

    Amazing Books

I thought that overall these were an amazing three books. L. J. Smith is the queen of good ideas, but with one flaw. I felt that there was not enough character development. In Secret Vampire, when they talked about Poppy and James being close, and how they'd grown up together; we (the readers) should've been told a little more about that. I really didn't care much about James, and Poppy's brother's pain made Poppy a complex character but left Phil a little flat. The transition between Secret Vampire and Daughters of Darkness what a little rushed. At the end of the first book, Ash includes them in an odd sounding speech and then suddenly they're the stars of their very own book? Where did these people come from?? I enjoyed spellbinder but thought it a little repetitive. The Human/Vampire can't be together but are together was the subject of both the precluding books. I love L. J. Smith's ideas. They are inventive and her people act like people and don't throw away everything for love (like in Twilight) but I wish her characters were a little more believable.

Enjoyed it from start to finish!

In Secret Vampire, the secret word is compromise. What would you give up for the one you love? Poppy, the free spirited teenager, begins her summer with devastating news. She has a deadly disease. Her best friend James is her only hope for survival. But when James finally comes to the conclusion that in order to save Poppy he has to kill her first, nothing goes as planned. Poppy's fearless twin brother Phil steps in and demands everyone leaves her alone, including James. With eyes burning and breath quickening Phil tells James, "- it's all over now. From now on you stay away from her. Understand?"

When all the secrets come out, there's only one thing to do; create another secret. Poppy must become something that doesn't exist, a vampire. Now racing against time and breaking all the rules on the way, James must save his newly found love. In this story, the third person point of view takes you into everyone's minds. With a new and unusual plot, bestselling author L.J. Smith, takes you on an unknown journey where there are twists around every corner. I recommend this book to anyone who wants excitement, heart-pounding thrill, and love all in one story.

    Would Of Liked More

Just wished that LJ Smith would have continued the story of Poppy. I didn't know that the Night World series were different stories that did not have an ending. I only bought the one book because of this. I like to finish a story to completion. Having a conclusion/ending and not leave it lingering, asking for more as this book did. So if you like short unfinished stories, then this is the series for you. Other than that the stories in the book were good.

    Nothing new

The storylines all run together and it was your typical, girl meet guy (who's actually a vampire) and then together they overcome some obstacle. You brew that together with the lack of witty dialogue or some new twist and you get the mundane brew that defines this book.

    Love the first 2 books

I loved the first 2 books (Secret Vampire, Daughters of Darkness) and didn't really like Spellbinder as much (I didn't even read it all). But, even with me not liking Spellbinder I still love this book! For any twilight fans out there this is sooo much better then twilight (I used to be obbsessed with twilight so this is not coming from a twilight hater). A must read!

    Okay

Overall, I thought that this book was okay. I really liked the first story "Secret Vampire" because it had a different twist then any other vampire book I've ever read, which was new and interesting.James and Poppy are another Bella and Edward, nice couple. I didn't really care for the other two stories in the book.
