Overview

First in a stunning new post-apocalyptic paranormal romance trilogy.

Growing up with an unstable, often absent father who preached about the end of the world, Jenna never thought in her wildest nightmares that his predictions would come true. Or that he would have a plan in place to save her-one that includes the strong, stoic man who kidnaps and takes her to a remote cabin in the Pacific Northwest.

The mysterious ex-Marine named Mason owes a life-debt to Jenna's father. Skilled and steadfast, he's ready for the prophesied Change, but Jenna proves tough to convince. Until the power grid collapses and mutant dogs attack-vicious things that reek of nature gone wrong.

When five strangers appear, desperate to escape the bloodthirsty packs, Jenna defies her protector and rescues them. As technology fails and the old world falls away, Jenna changes too, forever altered by supernatural forces. To fight for their future, she and Mason must learn to trust their instinctive passion-a flame that will see them through the bitter winter, the endless nights, and the violence of a new Dark Age.

    I Also Recommend:

Wonderful book! Could not put it down!

This book had everything going for it--great writing, Hunky Alpha-Man good with weapons, and a Kick-Patootie Heroine! If you've followed the Skin books by Ava Gray AKA Ann Aguirre, then you know half of this author, Ellen Connor, is Ann Aguirre, and therein lies the wonderful writing. The survival situation these two characters find themselves in is such a challenge, and the monster dogs raise it up a notch as well. But all these things happening do not overwhelm the "romance" found in this book--weird, huh. Jenna and John. John and Jenna. When these two look at each other, you can feel the heat and the vulnerability between them. I soo loved this book. I highly recommend Nightfall, and can't wait for Book 2 of 3.

starts off as a science fiction collapse of civilization but deftly switches into a post-apocalyptic survivor fantasy

In the middle of the twenty-first century, the first power grid failed in Eastern Europe; soon others followed as the east coast of America went dark while the wave continued to cross the broken country. Some claimed the End of Days Rapture had begun; while others insisted nuclear meltdowns and WMDs as the causes.

Her late dad predicted the end of days as the demise of technology followed by the Change, but Jenna Barclay thought her father was a survivalist lunatic. In Oregon the grid still works, but for how much longer? Former Marine John Mason owes a life debt to Jenna's late father and pays the first installment by kidnapping his deceased guru's daughter to take her to safety in the remote wild just before the magical change begins. Jenna thinks her abductor is as crazy as her dad was until mutant dogs attack them followed by meeting three adults and two children fleeing violent inhuman predators. Neither Jenna nor John is prepared for the Change that comes to them.

The first Dark Age Dawning thriller starts off as a science fiction collapse of civilization but deftly switches into a post-apocalyptic survivor fantasy reminiscent of Sterling E. Lanier's Hiero's Journey. The story line is fast-paced from the moment John takes Jenna to the cabin her father prepared for her. Aptly titled as Nightfall has fallen putting out the lights of civilization though pockets of packs change yet retain the essence of what is human in the new lethal world.

I'm a little bit heart broken that it's only a trillogy. Once yo

I'm a little bit heart broken that it's only a trillogy. Once you get hooked on this first book you won't want it to end. The world created here is complex and original and the writting style makes it easy to find yourself dropped into the center of it as if you were witnessing it all with your own eyes. The story is well paced with a perfect balance of action, character development, dialogue and prose. This is certainly an adult novel with both graphic violence and explicit sex but while things do get hot the sex doesn't overshadow the plot or the character development. The focus remains on the story and the emotion and growth that the characters are going through. I really enjoy apocolypic storylines but am frequently disappointed when it's difficult to connect to the characters because the whole focus of the book seems to be on explaining the rules of this new world the author has created. That was not the case here. I was absolutely engaged in the characters and loved the environment and adventure of the story as well. I highly recommend it!! Beware, after reading this one you'll want to get the other two as well!!

    Blood, Sex, and Magic

While it took me a chapter to get into this book, it was worth it. The story is based on a post-apocalyptic world where creatures rule and humans are forced to adapt or perish. The story follows two main characters and their interaction with a handful of other survivors. The steam factor was simmering in the background(not over boiling) and the actual story takes precedent over the love scenes. If you like action with a side dish of romance, this book is for you.
