Nightfire: A Protectors Novel: Marine Force Recon

I love Lisa Marie Rice but only like this book

I've enjoyed and loved many of her books including the previous two to this series with Sam's being my favorite. This one started out well but started becoming what I call too much head speak and not enough main character interaction. I loved the build up of Chloe coming to RBK and the reunion with Harry. In true LMR style the two main characters immediately recognized what they were to each other. I enjoyed Chloe having a backbone and not jumping to conclusions early on about Mike and helping him. I even liked Harry stepping up protecting his sister. What I didn't like was the book then did a large 6 month fastforward. I was like ????? It then picked up and steamrolled with chloe getting threatened and them coming back together and the resolution. I missed the relationship building and the tension which is what LMR is so good at. So I love LMR but only "like" this book:(

3rd book

## Yeah, the man whore thing bothered me too a bit (like the last reviewer), but i got over it after the 1st chapter. This was a terrific book with two very interesting leads. This heroine could have been portrayed as weak and fragile but somehow wasn't (thank you ms. Rice). And i loved the way the author incorporated the characters from the first two books. My favorite remains book #1 (sam & nicole), then this one. I could hardly put it down. My only complaint was the ending. I like my endings to be a little longer, more satisfying. Sort of a reward of sorts. But overall a great read!

Ok read

Ok read, not as good as Sam and Nicoles story or the whole Midnight Series. I do love most of LMR's writings. I just didn't feel the emotions between the two main characters, the story seemed rushed.

While I agree with some of the other reviews I found it to be a decent. If I were to say anything about the romance area, it would be that Mike was no where the same persona as the first two books. As for the suspence/drama, it seemed a little rushed and under-developed. Still it is a good read and a keeper.

As you can see, NIGHTFIRE is the third book in the Protectors series. I would call this more of a companion to the series, able to be read as a stand-alone, which is what I did. There is some background from the first two books that is peppered in to keep you in the loop. I will definitely be going back and reading the first two books. From the bits I picked up, they sound as good as NIGHTFIRE.

And that's exactly how I'd classify NIGHTFIRE; very good. It's a fairly typical adult romance, but with more action. You have your alpha male hero in Mike. He's damaged, very damaged. And he is living his life in a extremely destructive manner. But his reasoning is valid. He's simply lost. Mike is also a successful businessman, friend, and works hard to secure the protection of abused women. So that automatically scores him 10k awesome points. Chloe is somewhat a typical heroine, but better. She had a horrific childhood. She's alone and vulnerable.. Chloe has a genuine heart of gold and was easy to root for. The chemistry between them is instantaneous, but it wasn't in an annoying way. Sometimes sparks fly immediately. I've seen it happen.

Even though Mike and Chloe have only known each other a few hours, they are on the fast track to sexy-time city. Circumstance, however, and some bad decisions on Mike's part, put a grinding halt to the festivities. Mike and Chloe, once potential lovers, are left hovering in the friend zone. But a dangerous new threat pushes them back together and Mike will risk all to keep his lady safe.

So like I said, good book. I had an excellent time reading it. There were some nice steamy bits, though I actually expected more of them. The familial, comfortable vibe amongst all the characters was charming. I was surprised by how big a role the (what I thought was) secondary story played. I actually learned more than I ever wanted to know about human trafficking and sexual slavery. Such a sad issue, but I appreciate that the author was shedding light on it. And in the end, it serves as the impetus for the primary story, Mike and Chloe.

NIGHTFIRE is perfect you are itching for an adult romance that also has some kick-butt action. It was a nice break from my norm.

High Recommended

I have never heard or read any thing from Lisa Marie Rice. I enjoyed this series, I found it to be entertaining. Great read. Characters are both loveable and believable. I found myself reading all of this authors books. Not disappointed.. Need more books from Ms. Rice.

Not a good read

First of all this book is very condescending to other races. Second, the author treated the main character's near sexual abuse and traumatic childhood as if it was nothing. It was just very weird it mostly centered around the "hero" being a sex addict. It just was a bad read.

Definitely worth reading!

While not breaking new ground, LMR def has a particular formula for her romantic suspense, still it is a good fast read. I wasn't disappointed although I always wish her books were a little longer. There seems to always be loose ends I would love to have tied up. Still very good heroine in Chloe Mason and Mike makes another yummy hero.

Liked the book but felt cheated it was like the author got tired of writing and decided to end it as soon as possible. Would have liked for her to develop the story in more detail, as she did with the previous books.

Worth the $!

Really enjoyed the book after coming to grips with Mikes sex history. I have loved all of LMR's books.
