Editorial Reviews

Deb Jones
NIGHTMARES ECHO is a moving book about a nearly unthinkable subject. Ms. Stewart has done well to explain the events of her life without excess emotionalism or sensationalism. Instead, the book is a glimpse at the events of her childhood and how those events helped to shape her life. It is also a book about a courageous young girl who manages to thrive despite the tragedy of abuse, and how that young girl moves into womanhood and makes active choices to change how she reacts to her past and her present. The author completes her work with an admonishment to the reader to listen, observe, and offer help to children who may be victims of abuse; it is a plea that cannot fall on deaf ears after reading her story. a plea that cannot fall on deaf ears after reading her story.

NIGHTMARE'S ECHO is a continuous series of events that furthered her father's abusive act evolving into spousal abuse and failed marriages. But what could have led to a point of no return was altered when a caring man entered Katlyn's life. If anything we learn from this genuinely honest reflection of one's life it's that we must not allow others to manipulate us. We must love and respect ourselves so that we can love others. That our self-esteem is the internal force that fires up our will to live. There are important lessons to be learned through Katlyn. If you want to touch upon heartbreak and believe in the power to overcome abuse and live the most rewarding life possible, read Nightmare's Echo.

Nightmares Echo is the heart wrenching account of an abused child’s experiences from puberty into adulthood. Children who are abused often find ways to retreat within themselves from the pain. Once they are no longer in the abused situation they believe life can return to normalcy and that happiness will come. This is a misconception though, because abuse takes on many forms and these kids are mostly lambs to the slaughter when it comes to dealing with complications in their lives. Through the eyes of the young child in this book the reader understands the true terror and disillusionment that scars an innocent soul when those whom they trust hurt, terrorize and seek to maintain the illusion of a normal family. This child took on the guilt for every misfortune that befell her and little by little she came to believe that she was undeserving of a good life. Only with the love and care of someone whom withstood the test of time does she find her way for a chance of true happiness and is acquainted with the courage that she possesses. This book is revealing in that it gives a true picture of the long lasting and devastating effects of abuse that follow these kids into adulthood. Adults are after all grown up forms of the child that dwells within.

    The Unthinkable

No one could imagine that the unthinkable could happen to a child/teen..but it does. This book helps to get inside the mind of that child, showing the devastation that follows abuse. An amazing piece of work.

    Exactly what I needed

Nightmares Echo is exactly what I needed in order to understand the hidden emotions one feels after the abuse has occurred. Personally, I rate the book highly.

    Didn't like it

Not a good book at all. Over the top and unbelievable. I have read many books on the subject and this doesn't fit in at all. This seems more based on fantasy than reality. I don't understand why someone would write these things that aren't true and hurt people that this has REALLY happened to!

    Nightmares Echo

The book was too choppy...very hard to read and follow. If there was a -2 stars, that is what I would rate this book. I can not suggest this book to anyone and feel good about it. At least I can tell people it wasn't good so they can save money. I wish I could get my money back! I will just throw it away...

    Disappointing

While it was good idea to get the subject out there I found this book to be less than exceptional compared to others I have read on the same subject. Obviously, many others have enjoyed this book. I purchased it based on the recommendations of others.

    It was okay but...

I wasn't really impressed. I felt that more time should have gone into the story part. It was a good first book... I hope the next book does better. At least she got her story out there and people appear to be reading it. Good luck to the author.

    Touching-Incredible

This is an emotional book that takes you through the life of a child-teen-adult that first is plagued by child and sexual abuse, then later in life made poor choices due to her lack of self-worth. You are taken inside of her emotional ride. The look in the mirror at her own nakedness, trying to find something-anything special about her. The fact that she shows the reader why we should not look down on the homeless, the drug addict as they may have been abused children. I opened the book and started to read and could not put it down as I challenged the author to fight through and away from the pain. Incredible!

    What An Emotional Roller Coaster!

This book is a touching and sad story of one person¿s trials and tribulations with all forms of abuse. Written in a matter of fact style, with true emotions. I would recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with abuse or does not understand how hard it is to break the cycle. Ms. Stewart has made it clear! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Recommendation: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Lynn Young is the Managing Editor of The MWLA Review, a Reviewer and Editor.

Review of Nightmares Echo/ I will certainly be recommending this book highly.

Katlyn: I just wanted to write and let you know that I read your galley proof of your book and found it to be excellent. They writing style and clarity with which you wrote your story is powerful and makes it easy to read. I appreciate the fact that you concentrated on the psychological impact the abuse had covering only enough of the physical aspects of the abuse you needed to in order to convey the message of what type of abuse occurred. Well done. I have worked in the field of sexual abuse for 25 years so have read many books and articles on the subject, many written by those who were victimized. It was a refreshing change to pick up a book that I couldn't put down until I had finished it. For me that is rare! The simplicity and honesty of your writing presented a very clear picture of the life of the little girl that strived to survive. I will certainly be recommending this book highly. I work with a high percentage of Native population in very isolated communities. I always look for resources that are appropriate to recommend and this certainly will be one of them. I thank you for your courage and strength and congratulations on being able to share your story for others to learn from. Good luck on this book Take care & keep safe Linda Halliday-Sumner
