The worst monsters are human.
Six months ago, Nathan's sister was brutally murdered.
Now the former playboy desires only one thing: revenge.
Late at night, Nathan trudges down the beach where his sister's body was found. He's searching for answers, but all he finds is a new nightmare: another girl's tortured body.
Only this one isn't dead . . . yet.
The unlikely hero becomes the prime suspect. Saving Caitlin's life was just the start. Nathan must win her trust and unlock the memories hidden in her nightmares to find out who's really responsible, before it's too late.

A tiny taste of what's in store:

"Stay away from her, Nathan. That girl isn't good for you."
Stay away from her? I'd go crazy with worry in a day. "You don't know her."
Chris looked grim. "Neither do you. Is there anything you wouldn't do for her?"
"Yes," I snapped. "I wouldn't die for her."
Chris turned around to stare at me, her mouth hanging open.
"Do you want to know why?" I asked steadily. "I wouldn't die for her because I wouldn't be able to protect her any more. What if I missed one of the people who hurt her? I couldn't take that risk. She's too important."

Meet the Author

Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish.

She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below.

Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all.

Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world.

The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.

Holy Smokes!!! This book is completely amazing. I could not put it down. There are times when the book is a little cloudy, it's meant to be so roll with it. The relationship that develops between Nathan and Caitlin is constantly overshadowed by the ordeal Caitlin went through. Carlton pours the emotion out onto the page in a satisfying way rendering your feeling for everyone involved. It was masterful! Of course you have suspend some disbelief for how some of the things happened in hospital, but that's why they call it fiction. One thing to keep in mind during the reading of this book is that it takes place in Perth, Australia. So for us northern hemisphere folks remember September is spring;). Read this book, it is amazing. It is a quick read, because like I said you can't put it down once you get going. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I picked this up a couple of days ago and couldn't put it down until I turned the last page.  The first chapter drew me in completely. it was instantly intriguing. So much so that I had to know more. Some of it was hazy/clouded and as you read, it's revealed why - pure genius, that's all I'm saying. The rest of the book didn't disappoint in any way.  The author managed to keep me guessing on motives, involvement and even the outcome the entire time. I was wrong most of the time and perhaps that's what kept me reading - not knowing what was coming next..

After much confusion, and largely unexplained mystery the end is unfinished. I consider these book a total ripoff. Yet, it still readable.

I did not like this book. When it started, I was hooked. However, the chararacters never seemed to be fully developed, and by the end of the book, I felt I knew less of them than I did in the beginning. The conclusion was not a conclusion; it was a cliffhanger, and without reading the next book, there is no way to know the whole story. This was disappointing as it started out intriguing me but became less interesting as it became more confusing, and the end was not actually the end.

I would have given a higher rating to this story if it wasn't for the ending....in my opinion, it just was not as good as the rest of the book. In the beginning I was very interested in the story and couldn't wait to see where it was going but by the end I was forcing myself to finish it and found myself rolling my eyes at some parts. I don't know what happened to the author between the beginning and ending but I ended up quite disappointed in this book.

Wow. This is a excellent story how a Rape and abuse survivor can show strength of will to survive. Caitlin was kidnapped and repeatedly raped and abused. She had to suffer at the hands of 4 different men who broker some of her bones and made her get to the point that she wanted to end it all. She was found of the beach by Nathan who also lost his Sister. Caitlin became close to Nathan who helped her from the time he found her until she went away with her friend Jo. The Twist at the end of the book was just amazing. The story really draws you in and keeps you captivated until you find that you have read the full story.

Demelza Carlton has written an amazing book. You will not be able to put it down. Characters are well developed. If you want a book that you know the answer in the first 50 pages this isn't for you. Demelza keeps you guessing the whole time. Her ending will give you questions to get her next book. Enjoyed it and will be reading the next one.

This is a seriously intense book. The main character, Caitlyn, has barely survived a brutal crime and this story Iine takes you through the tremendous trauma. This gripping tale allows you snapshots of the anguish she feels as she struggles with trying to heal and keeps you on edge as to who are the criminals that put her through this. This tale is not for the weak on heart. This writer succeeded in putting my emotions through the wringer! A book not for the weak!

The beginning was promising, but became tedious and by the end... oh, wait it didnt end there's another book or two. The characters weren't very likeable, even poor Caitlyn started to make me cringe. It seems others liked the book a lot. Maybe I missed something along the way, but this really wasn't my cup of tea.

You never get the real story and there is no ending. Wish i would have chosen something different to read. Will not be reading the other books in the series.

WHEN DOES IT STOP...AUTHORS BEWARE...YOU WILL CONTINUE TO LOSE READERS.... I want to be your books because I LIKE YOUR READING STYLE AND WANT TO not because it is the only way to get closure for I book I bought  and read...HOW HORRIBLY RUDE TO DO THIS OVER AND OVER AND OVER.   In the past authors respected their work AND THEIR READERS ENOUGH to give a good story for your money.  Now authors just end it midway so you are forced to buy yet another book to get any satisfaction.  That is not right.  I took in to account this may be from another country because of the typos and expressions but the end was built up to a formidible let down and then  SPOILER ALERT....NOTHING...because you have to buy the next book.  NOT THIS READER....ENOUGH IT ENOUGH...THIS HAD ONE OF THE WORST TO BE CONTINUED ENDINGS EVER AND BECAUSE IT IS A TRLOGY, BET THE NEXT ONE IS THE SAME WAY                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               I

If you are not a fan of f-bombs....skip this book. The author's lack of vocabulary made this book tedious at best.

The ending was totally confusing and unsatisfying. I didn't fall in love, or even in like, with either of the main characters because I never learned anything about them. There was zero character building. Just a blah book overall.
