Overview

This is one of the best volumes of the PTG label's extended excavation of forgotten and barely remembered early- to mid-'80s club R&B. There are several standouts, including Barbara Fowler's "Come and Get My Lovin'" (Radar, 1984), Linda Taylor's "(You're) In the Pocket" (Groove Production, 1981), Superior Movement's "Wide Shot" (Chycago International, 1982), Phyllis St. James' "Ain't No Turnin' Back" (Motown, 1984), Jamaica Girls' "Need Somebody New," Ron Banks' "This Love Is for Real" (CBS, 1983) and, above all, Gene Dunlap's chunky stomp "Take My Love" (Capitol, 1981). Note for those who collect compilations of this nature: the mix of another highlight, Samson & Delilah's "I Can Feel Your Love (Slippin' Away)," differs slightly from the one heard on Joey Negro and Sean P.'s Destination: Boogie compilation.
