I know a lot about this young woman and have seen her and met her in person. She is a rising star who will be a major figure in jazz, as a vocalist in general, and you will likely see her in movies. She intends to follow the career path of Barbara Streisand! She is about to release her 3rd album. Her potential is virtually unlimited, but this CD is already amazing. Read reviews on Amazon for the CDs and her DVDs. There is grumpy guy here in the reviews who really cut into her and compared Nikki to American Idol level talent. This is so wrong and reflects ignorance and/or petty anger that a young woman could challenge his world view of jazz. Tony Bennett has called Nikki "the most talented singer since Judy Garland." Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones are full of accolades. She is well-known for her amazing vocal skills, "dead-on perfect pitch" (downbeat magazine). The cut from the guy that she is off-key at any time on the album is sheer nonsense. And the album was produced by Phil Ramone, the producer of all the mega-stars in music. Get this CD and check-out Nikki in detail-what I am saying is the majority opinion by far!

If you like jazz, this CD is for you. Nikki's voice is mellow and soulful, I love listening to this CD. Every song is awesome, but Over the Rainbow is the best! Not since Judy Garland have I heard someone sing that song so beautifully. This young woman is only 16, she has quite a career in front of her. I highly recommend this CD.

But, the difference between a good wine and a great vintage or day-old stew, is the flavors have had a chance to mingle and mellow. Nikki Yanofsky definitely has a good voice, but it needs maturing and maybe some different more uptempo arrangements to help her to reach her potential. At some points she does not sound any more special or commercial than some of the young singers on AMERICAN IDOL. The juxtaposition of her still-young voice and big band melodies from fifty to sixty years ago is at times jarring. With Michael Buble and Harry Connick Jr. and Diana Krall singing jazzy standards-and better-I hope Nikki Yanofsky will carve out her niche with something a bit peppier and younger. There are even a few awkward pitch moments, and that is corrected with experience and technique. I wouldn't rush to buy this.
