Following the cool reception to Insomniac, Green Day retreated from the spotlight for a year to rest and spend time with their families. During that extended break, they decided to not worry about their supposedly lost street credibility and make an album according to their instincts, which meant more experimentation and less of their trademark punk-pop. Of course, speedy, catchy punk is at the core of the group's sound, so there are plenty of familiar moments on the resultant album, Nimrod, but there are also new details that make the record an invigorating, if occasionally frustrating, listen. Although punk-pop is Green Day's forte, they sound the most alive on Nimrod when they're breaking away from their formula, whether it's the shuffling "Hitchin' a Ride," the bitchy, tongue-in-cheek humor of "The Grouch," the surging surf instrumental "Last Ride In," the punchy, horn-driven drag-queen saga "King for a Day," or the acoustic, string-laced ballad "Good Riddance." It's only when the trio confines itself to three chords that it sounds tired, but Billie Joe has such a gift for hooky, instantly memorable melodies that even these moments are enjoyable, if unremarkable. Still, Nimrod suffers from being simply too much -- although it clocks in at under 50 minutes, the 18 tracks whip by at such a breakneck speed that it leaves you somewhat dazed. With a little editing, Green Day's growth would have been put in sharper relief, and Nimrod would have been the triumphant leap forward it set out to be. As it stands, it's a muddled but intermittently exciting record that is full of promise.

And God said, "let there be Nimrod," and it was good...

I don't expect anything but greatness from Green Day. They couldn't make a bad album if they tried. Now that you know how high I hold them in esteem, when I say that Nimrod is their best album, one can see that I'm not joking around. The first song ("Nice Guys Finish Last") is good, but the real kicker of the album is "Hitchin' a Ride." I heard this song and instantly thought of Stray Cats. Later, we find out that this album is really the debut of Green Day's current eclectic blend. Their first real ballad is on this album as well. "Good Riddance (Time of your Life)" has, over the years, made me cry, ponder, and has comforted me. I don't think I'm the only one who's felt this, but I digress. So, now that I've ranted about Green Day's awesomeness, I'll wind it up: Nimrod is a great, truly underrated album that anyone with even barely good taste in music will love and appreciate.

    Should Be Better Recognized!

Although Green Day is known for their albums Dookie and American Idiot, that does not mean that this album is even slightly less great! Every song has a different emotion (whether it be angry, sad, or loving) and the lyrics are very well put together. The sounds are great, thanks to Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool, and Billie Joe sings the songs with the emotions they need! My personal favorites is Nice Guys Finish Last, Hitchin' a Ride, Redundant, King For a Day, and Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). The only downside to this CD is that the songs end too quickly... but besides that, it is the perfect CD to express whatever kind of emotion you have!

    WHOA!!

Next to American Idiot, Nimrod is the best green day cd! My faves are Hitchin a Ride,Prosthetic Head, King for a Day, Good Riddance, and Platypus. My least favorite is Take back. Too toneless. So if your'e not familiar with Green Day, first get American Idiot. Then Nimrod.

    Freakin' Sweet!

Nimrod is one of Green Day's best CD's. My favorites are Nice Guys Finish Last and Hitchin' a Ride. All the Time, The Grouch. and King of a Day are really hilarious. I can't think of one song on here that I don't like!

    Green Days finest!

So here you are thinking to yourself 'i'd like to buy a Green Day album' and you stumble across this little album 'Nimrod' well my friend, i can confirm that you have come to the right place. This is by far the greatest piece of Green Day history ever! and the best way to start off your collection. the lyrical genius from Billie Joe Armstrong (who also plays lead guitar) neatly intertwined with the drums played by Tre Cool and bass from Mike Dirnt. All songs written by the band and played to ther usual standard, excellence. you can expect the usual angry love songs and trips down memory lane put into that oh so controversial punk rock style. go and buy it now, you're a fool not to!

    Master Piece

This is for sure the greatest Green Day album. It fetures radio hits like ''Hitchin' A Ride'', everyone's favorite ''Good Riddance'', ''Redundant'', ''Nice Guys Finish Last'', & ''Last Ride In''. It also has greats like ''Grouch'' & ''Prosthetic Head''. It is great to listen to if your happy, upset, angry or anything and fell better. It just that kind of album. A must have

First of all, the above track listing is incorrect.

Owners of this CD: look on the back of the jewel case, inside the jewel case, in the booklet, and even on Gracenote CDDB or other CD Lookup service for the correct listings. Nimrod is, with or without the inaccurate information on this page, quite possibly their second best or tied-for-first album, only below or on par with Dookie.

    Good Effort By Green Day

It was a good effort by Green Day, just not there best effort. This CD doesn't stand out like Dookie or Isomniac(Check Out My Review of Dookie, I have good things to say!). I gave this CD five stars anyway just because of certain tracks that stand out. For one thing, ''The Grouch'' is a crazy song but I love it. Also ''Jinx'', ''Haushinka'', ''King For A Day'' and especially ''Good Riddance (Time Of You Life)''. (You must hear that song, it will inspire you). Green Day has really gone hardcore with CD and I think they did alright.

    NIMROD ROCKZ!!!!

From their bass blasting ''Hitchin' A Ride'' and their swearing punk rock of ''The Grouch'' all the way to the fast paced ''Reject'' (Soffocate) makes this cd a keeper for life!
