Great idea, interesting story; shaky execution

Halloween night, 2003, is no ordinary night for humanity - a strange fog hovers just above the treetops, and then, suddenly, creatures out of nightmare are attacking and killing women and children. Adrian and Clay work together for the police, and have been friends for 14 years - they find themselves on the run, searching for the answers, trying to stay alive. What are these demonic-looking creatures? What is their purpose? Can they be stopped? Who will survive?

"The Nine Orders" takes place in a fairly complex universe - there exists a tenuous balance, and the Nine Orders are nine groups of entities charged with maintaining that balance. Other entities mentioned are Fiends, Arches, Creators, Shadows and Enders. While the universe is complex, Torres does a pretty good job of explaining things and keeping everything straight. I found the book a highly engrossing and enjoyable read. The main problem with it is that the text needs some serious editing. The tense changes from past to present - often within the same sentence - and there are numerous instances of misspellings, misused words, and grammatical and syntax errors galore. With editing this book could be something really magnificent - as it is, it is very enjoyable and well worth reading for those who enjoy fantasy and/or science fantasy, especially that which focused on the battle of good against evil and maintaining balance.

    You must check it out!

An easy read with a new fresh take on mythology. A wonderful 'what if' scenario. What if what we have always perceived as angels and/or demons were actually aliens. What if these species had been locked in battle since their birth and now Earth is in close proximity of one of these fights. Can humans make it out alive?
