Our church recommended this! It's the NIV Bible most Christian Churches use and recommend. It's definitely the one you should buy as a COMPLETE first Bible however, I saw the NIV Teen Study Bible and fell in love with it. Same COMPLETE NIV version BUT it gave biblical advice for young people in side columns that helps children apply the Bible to their life. The advice columns address how kids can apply the Bible to the issues they face today (ie bullies, peer pressure etc).
If you want to buy this first, then a NIV Teen Study Bible later that is a great step. I just wanted to buy 1 Bible so I felt the Study Bible would last my daughter who is 6 years old a bit longer in life.
Nevertheless, this Beginner's Bible is the bible all the kids take to church. The hardback cover seems like it might break over time so maybe you can also take a peek at the paperback to see which cover suits your child. I wish they made this in an imitation leather option for durability.
The one I exchanged it for was the Teen Study Bible: New International Version, Melon Green, Italian Duo-tone (it is the same Publisher).
Regardless of which Bible you buy, be sure to get the Noah's Ark Bible Tabs to tab your child's pages and a bible carrier. They'll be able to keep up with finding things quicker and durability when it falls! I've tabbed all of our Bibles and love how easy I find things.
