Barnes & Noble - Scott Paulin
When the 5 Browns released their debut album in 2005, the group -- a highly marketable quintet of clean-cut, piano-playing Mormon siblings -- quickly convinced all skeptics that they could deliver the musical goods to justify any amount of hype. That album was full of charismatic music making, revealing an unusual chemistry among the members of this talented family. They've returned not a moment too soon with No Boundaries, a follow-up that finds the Browns, now in their 20s, at a new level of maturity and confidence, both individually and as a group. The album is also available as a DualDisc, featuring three beautifully shot performance videos. As before, the works ...

As before, the works transcribed for full quintet are the program's glorious highlights, including an exhilarating version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue that opens the disc and a suite from Stravinsky's brilliant Firebird that closes it. The jazzy Gershwin sets the tone for a program that draws on many forms of popular music: the folk song of Copland's Simple Gifts also for full quintet; the ragtime of John Novacek's Full Stride Ahead; the fiery gypsy strains of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 both solos for Gregory; and works by Lecuona, Ginastera, and Ravel that feature lively Spanish and Latin American rhythms. The Ravel, an excerpt from Rapsodie espagnole, throws the spotlight on the duo of Desirae and Deondra, who once again threaten to steal the show with their superbly matched performance, even though younger siblings Ryan and Melody earn their center-stage solos as well. But it's folly to pick favorites; even more than the first time around, each Brown's unique contribution to the whole makes this family album a thoroughly enjoyable musical encounter.
All Music Guide - James Manheim
U.S. marketers have been looking for a crossover blockbuster to match Britain's parade of chart-topping teens, and they may just have found one in this quintet of well-scrubbed Utah siblings three girls, two boys who won separate scholarships to the Juilliard School in New York. No Boundaries is their second album, and it closely follows the pattern of their highly successful debut, minus the inclusion of a video disc. The best news is that the playing here is musically solid and the repertoire even a bit challenging -- there are no five-piano arrangements of "My Heart Will Go On," but there is Lutoslawski the "Variations on a Theme of Paganini" and Ginastera the "Danzas Argentinas, Op. 2," with Ryan Brown making you believe that more than one piano is sounding. As on the first album, there are only a couple of arrangements for five pianos, with the rest of the album given over to solos, duos, and trios. The pieces with all five siblings playing are in some ways the most impressive. Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," when you think about it, is not an easy thing to hold together in an arrangement like this one by Jeffrey Shumway, with all the subtle tempo adjustments necessary to produce an expressive reading of the piece. But the "Rhapsody in Blue" and the final "Firebird" section are excitingly musical as well as accurately executed. One wonders where this rather unwieldy piano quintet will go next, but here the group has created the best kind of American sensation. Pick up a copy for the teenager in your life.

    Classical Music Superstars

I loved listening this CD after hearing it once and I never get sick of listening to it. The music on this CD is much better than the songs featured on their debut CD. I thought the title for this CD was well chosen and the included music was appropriate. I'm not sure if I would dance to this type of music but I must say that it definetly has some kind of amazing energy.

    5 great stars

For anyone who loves the piano (or pianos), this album is a must for any collection of pop/classical renditions of music you already love, by some of the very best musicians that today brings to your speakers and a sound that these young artists provide. You will love every second of this album - better than their first....
