With her appearance in The Secret, San Diego-based Nichols is now a star life coach and motivational speaker. In this candid, inspirational book, she crafts a program to guide people to more fulfilled, happy and purposeful lives, illustrating each chapter with her own remarkable story, which she adeptly turns into motivational jewels. From a troubled childhood-she was molested and had difficulty as a black student at a mostly white school-to teen years as a star athlete who lacked self-esteem, dead-end jobs and an abusive relationship and finally success, Nichols has gone through both the highs and lows of life. Her message is simple and follows The Secret's Law of Attraction. But this book is about the Law of No Matter What: no matter what happens or what people say, you must commit to taking action: "I will do what I need to do." And if you stumble along the way, you need "bounce-back muscles." Each of nine chapters explores a different "muscle" (faith in yourself, honesty, say yes, etc.). Nichols's infectious enthusiasm and compassion shine from each page. (Apr. 13)

All rights reserved.Motivational speaker Nichols, who appeared in the hit film and book The Secret, delivers sound advice to help readers focus on goals rather than worries and to live with hope in the present instead of fear for the future. With her guidance, readers develop various "muscles" (e.g., the faith-in-myself muscle) that allow for bouncing back from difficulties and achieving dreams. Psychotherapist Robinson (Heal Your Self-Esteem) has similar goals in mind and shows his audience how to view life's challenges as adventures rather than problems. To that end, Robinson uses ten "practices"-e.g., optimism, choice, and magnetism-that can lead to a clearer sense of direction, heightened self-confidence, and greater courage. The beauty of Robinson's book is its clarity, use of case studies, and grounding in psychology. Both books are recommended for public libraries, although Robinson's is preferred.

not much new info to me - but good for someone who is struggling with their life
Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Usually I'm not into self-help books but gave this one the old college try. Ms. Nichols made some very good suggestions in the book. She had exercises to do and lots of self talk ideas. I still don't get it though but maybe I'm one of those people that need a little more. Now that I've read it completely, maybe I should go back and do more of the exercises she mentions. Could be that would do the trick. I would recommend it to someone that is in to self-help books though.

It's very inspiring and Lisa gives detailed steps on what you need to do to get where you need to get. I like her "muscles" concept, and stop the "negative" side of brain to starting the "positive of the brain when you are having negative thoughts. I've learned a great deal and I will definitely use this book as a reference.

In the style of Norman Vincent Peale, NO MATTER WHAT! 9 Steps to Living the Life You Love by Lisa Nichols provides a how-to book on self esteem and positive thinking. Utilizing the law of No Matter What, the work includes practical advice that will assist a reader in their goal to improve their lives and "live the life you deserve."
Nichols has a great approach to self-improvement. She uses language that everyone can relate to regardless of their lifestyle or education. She takes her readers through muscle building steps including confidence, faith in oneself, taking action, saying yes, and most of all, forgiving oneself. She shares her own stories and how she utilized her own program to overcome the things that were holding her back from achieving success both personally and professionally. Her stories will seem familiar as they have been things many of us have experienced in our own lives.
This would be a good read for people who have encountered a recent disappointment. Whether you face an uncertain financial future, have lost a marriage or deal with a mental or physical handicap, this work would help you to understand how you can utilize your own strength and determination to succeed in life.
Best known for her work Chicken Soup for the Soul, Nichols is a motivational speaker and the founder of Motivating the Masses and CEO of Motivating the Teen Spirit, LLC.
