No More Drama [US Bonus Tracks]by Mary J. Blige
Since Mary J. Blige, the queen of hip-hop soul, made her debut with the 1992 urban music classic What's the 411?, she's been a poster child for dramaholics everywhere. Blige's self-destructive tendencies -- her tumultuous love affair with Jodeci's K-Ci Hailey, her rumored heavy drinking, and her overall bad attitude -- made for good water-cooler banter early in her career, but it's that inner turmoil that makes her music so compelling. With her fifth studio disc, No More Drama, however, Blige has undergone a miraculous transformation. No longer is she yearning to "Be Happy," as she did so painstakingly on 1994's soul-searching My Life. On Drama's bass-heavy, mid-tempo groove "Destiny," Blige proclaims that she's "finally happy" and ready to broaden her horizons. And that upbeat mood permeates the disc. From the funky, Dr. Dre-produced first single, "Family Affair," where MJB orders partygoers to stop the "hateration" and start the "holleration," to the comical blues number "PMS" (featuring guitar licks by Lenny Kravitz), where she jokingly sings, "My lower back is aching and my clothes don't fit/Now ain't that a bitch," Blige's spirits seem elevated, and her vocals sound more inspired than they did on 1999's cathartic Mary. The entire disc, which boasts production by Swizz Beatz, the Neptunes, and Missy Elliott, is exceptional, but it's the title track that makes the most lasting impression. Over a sample of the piano-heavy theme to the soap opera The Young & the Restless, Blige proclaims, "No one's gonna make me hurt again," before the song climaxes with a gospel choir chanting, "No more drama." Amen to that, Sister Mary! Exorcising one's demons never sounded better. And the remix disc boasts bonus tracks featuring rappers P. Diddy ("No More Drama" remix), Ja Rule ("Rainy Dayz") , and Common ("Dance For Me" remix).

It's a quality album, it's really mature, mary j is a true diva, and someone i really respect. 'steal away' is an excellent song. 'no more drama' is also quite good. but i can't understand why people be always giving artists they love 5 star reviews; that's unrealistic. anyway, i have to say that this album really speaks to me, mary j sounds just like a friend talking with me on this cd, and i love it, it's highly recommended (that's why i gave it 4 stars, bcos listeners will probably always be able to flow with her, just like she's a personal friend, and it takes special skill to make an album like that; otherwise i'd have given no more drama maybe 3.7 stars) I'd reserve a 4.7 - 5 star rating for the James Bond 30th Anniversary CD - Now That's What I Call Music!
Mary deserves alot of credit for doing this album. Every song on this is great! She has a wonderful voice and i hope she continues to do good.
Anyone who has a doubt about this woman is totally wrong about her! I knew that Mary had a spectacular voice but she blew me away with her recent interview/documentary of her life story on VH1's Behind The Music. She has struggled to over come drugs and to over come self doubt of herself as the star/celeberty/musician. And to get closer to her family. She over came it all!! No matter what she does she is like all female singer's with strength power, and courage: a SURVIVOR! I am so proud of her and I don't even know her. I stand behind her music, and writing. But mainly I stand behind her as a person who overcame all the things that could bring someone and anyone down and kill you inevitably!
What can I say, she has a voice of an angel that really touches alot of people. I admire her for her beauty within. This album gives me strength when I am weak. Let me just tell you, I've been going so much these last few months its unreal. You know what they say, when it rains it pours, its like this pain was taking control over me.but anyways I'm not going to burden you with my problems, although I can honestly say that Mary helped through my rough times, and of course God, his the main source. but you know what I mean. She's very inspiring, she's gives you hope, strength. & I'm truly greatful for this album. So if you don't have, by all means ''what are you waiting for'' baby dolls you won't regret it. I can assure you that much!!
The best song here has got to be family affairs. there were some songs that do not even compare to this one, but even those songs are great. this is a must get CD. her sounds are a welcoming relief from the bad things we have had to sit through so much lately...
I've loved Mary since her first album and she's still doin her thing 10 plus years later. This album is just another mark of growth in her life. She's so honest in her music and she wears her pain on her sleeve where we all can see and feel it. Mary is my girl and I'll forever be a fan. I still listen to What's The 411? as if it was made yesterday. Mary is one of the few artist out whose albums (all of them) you can listen to from begining to end.
what can you say about Mary J Blige? She is bad to the bone and so is this new spot that she just blew up, Cop this CD. As always there's something in it for everyone! Please believe me!
Mary is the straight queen of hip-hop. She is as fine as can be and her music is second to none. This is her best album since .......the 411. We love ya Mary.
Who doesn't like Mary J.Blige? My favorite song from her new CD is Family Affair. That song is crunk!Bye.
I THINK THAT MARYS NEW ALBULM IS OK. I GUESS IAM JUST USE TO HER OLD STYLE. THIS NEW CD DOES NOT GIVE ME THE HEART RUSH THAT ALL THE OTHERS GAVE ME. THIS ONE WAS DIFFERENT. I LOVE MARYS MUSIC BUT I CAN ONLY GET WITH A FEW CUTS. ESPECIALLY'NO MORE DRAMA' THAT THING IS HITTIN. ALSO THE PMS SONG. THATS HITTIN. IAM STILL TRYING TO FEEL FAMILY AFFAIR. ITS JUST DIFFERENT. ALSO I THINK MARY NEEDS TO DO A LITTLE BIT MORE TRAINING WITH HER VOICE BECAUSE ITS GETTING MORE RASPY EVERY TIME. BUT I STILL LOVE HER AS A ENTERTAINER
Ms.Blige is definately the queen of hip hop make no mistake, cause she has out done herself once again, if there is such thing.Keep up the good postive work cause you have the power to keep it going on.
My girl still keepin it up. This new CD is out of control. Something to ride to. There are only 2 slow songs on there which is not like her other CDs but it's cool because it all sounds good. I'm in love with that PMS cut. I'm feelin that for real. GO GET IT!!
Will for me I think that this Cd is great, especially the song ''DANCE FOR ME'' I love that song so much, it is so cool. I think the people who have a problem with her great work should just shut up, just becuase she is not like other singers does not mean you have to hassle her like you do to the other people who make good music. Thank you in reading this! It may not make sense but what the h#$%! Thank you once again, Rae
None the less I'm so glad I copt this album, finally I can bang this new piece. Mary is the ''Queen'' she's got a title to live up to.I own every album she dropped, and love every one, however, this is, too me, the new ''Millenium'' Mary, filled with happy tracks that can be celebrated.
If u don't have Mary's new album go and get it. Or u can listen to it on BET's web site but it is slamin' if u like poems then u will like hers keep up the good work Mary u are the best love ya
Hi, I'm a true fan of Mary J. There is nothing on this green earth, that she has sung that I didn't like. She is an amazing hip hop artist. I enjoy all of her music and her style of clothing. I wish one day I could meet her. Everyone here in Atlanta tells me I favor her. Sometimes I feel great sometimes,I don't because, she wants everyone to have there own style. I understand that clearly. If I had one wish to look like someone. I would pick the Queen of Hip Hop Miss Mary J. Blige. Thank's for reading, tru fan, Melissa L. B.K.A. Missy
I havent even heard the album yet but there hasnt been anything Mary J sung that I dont like, she just gets into your soul and you are like there. Mary keep doing what you do and you will always be No#1. Big AL
mary j blige is a very good poson she is the I
This album is her best yet...plus it's all her...she does a lot of the backup singing on top of producing most of the songs...none of the cameos overpower her songs either.
No need to say anything, except it's an awesome album, and I can't stop listening to it. I love the song Family Affair, Crazy Games, No MOre Drama, Keep It Coming and Destiny, all others are good as well.
