No Other Story

Overview

The Cheeseman family is back from back-in-time. In other words, they're in the present time. Well, presently, at least. They're soon to journey back again-only just a few years this time-to save the life of their beloved mother. But when Mr. Cheeseman and his three smart, polite, and relatively odor-free children get to the not-so-distant-past, they meet something utterly surprising. Something wilder than anything they've seen before — including cowboy poets and good-natured pirates. They are about to meet . . . ...

Old and new fans won't want to miss this surprising and hilarious page turner of a book. A Whole Nother Story was good. Another Whole Nother Story was better. But No Other Story is the best (plus it's got a shorter title).

Editorial Reviews

Kirkus Reviews
A once-entertaining tale about a widowed inventor who goes on the lam with his three above-average children (until he can finish building a time machine to dispel an ancient family curse and prevent his wife's murder) drags its way to a conclusion. Having taken care of the curse in the middle episode, Another Whole Nother Story (2010), "Soup" evidently finds that even with extensive padding--including an irrelevant flashback chapter and bit parts for the uncommonly intrusive author/narrator himself and his deaf mother--the culminating rescue makes only half a book. Accordingly, the author fills out the page count with a long and aimless stopover for the time-traveling Cheeseman family. This takes place in Some Times, an interdimensional mashup of eras, places and seasons where the Cheeseman children get glimpses of their futures from a worshipful descendent. Meanwhile, their father, convinced he's Gioachino Rossini after a knock to the head, furiously (re)composes the William Tell Overture. The Dave Barry–like flurries of sententious tangents that previously added refreshing interludes of silliness to the storyline come across here as dull and labored, as do the heavy-handed caricatures of various corporate and government pursuers who are the tale's villains. Happy and (more or less) logical resolution aside, thin Soup. (Fantasy. 11-13)

Meet the Author

Due to a remarkable physical resemblance, Dr. Cuthbert Soup is often mistaken for writer Gerry Swallow, who began his career as a stand-up comic, making numerous appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Dr. Soup's doppelganger then turned his attention to writing movies, including the blockbuster hit "Ice Age: The Meltdown."

Other than the aforementioned uncanny likeness, Dr. Soup has absolutely nothing else in common with Mr. Swallow, who lives with his wife and children in a very tiny mansion, whereas Dr. Soup lives in a huge mansion with his dog, Kevin, his pet snails, Gooey and Squishy, and his parents, Filbert and Roberta Soup.

The Legend of Samuel Knight part 27

Hey all you awesome people! I just check the polls for the categories in the fanfic oscars and I can't thank you guys enough. It's close in some categories, so if you haven't voted go do it at fantasy oscars res 2-8. Let's bring home some wins. Anyway, remember to leave feedback at Samuel Knight res 1 and any questions at res 2. Next part at The Son of Sobek. This part will be in Sam's p.o.v. On with the story! ---
I woke up and saw that I was high in the air. It all looked like one large green mass because my vision was blurry. I looked up and saw what appeared to be an eagle holding me in it's claws. I thought back and the last thing I remembered was my battle with Marcus. I remembered the jolt of lightning going through my body and collapsing. So how did I get into this situation. I had to get out of here! I tried get loose from the claws, but they were too tight. I punched at them with no effect, because I realized they were heavily armored. Wait, the armor was made of gold! It was a longshot, but I started to concentrate and in a moment I was on the ground. I ran into the forest to get away from the eagles. I kept running into trees because I still couldn't see. I walked occasionally yelling my friends names. All attempts in vain. I walked for few more minutes until I heard running water. I felt my way around until I found the source. Through my blurry vision it appeared normal. I cupped some into my hands and washed my eyes. My vision returned right away. I turned around and couldn't believe my eyes. "Well hello Graecus," Marcus said as he stood before me. I stepped back. "I can tell your surprised." "Where are we and what did you do to my friends!" He smirked "It's a shame really. If you'd have had the guts to kill me they would still be here." I thought he was lying, but that look in his eyes made it seem real. "You're lying!" "They all blamed you as they were slaughtered. The daughter of Aphrodite kept her faith. She screamed your name the whole time and you couldn't save her!" I snapped and charged at Marcus and tackled him to the ground. "I'll kill you!" I started to punch Marcus and all he did was laugh. "Go on do it! Let your heart be consumed by the darkness!" I finally bashed his head off of nearby rock. He laid there motionless. I heard a group of voices all yelling the same thing. "Sam!" I recognized them immediatly. "Guys I'm over here!" Soon enough I was reunited with my friends. I noticed that Julia and the others were amongst them. "Sam what happened to you!" Julia asked. None of them seemed to notice Marcus's body laying on the ground. "Nothing, you guys can fill me in later. We have to get moving." They were reluctant, but followed. --- Well what'd you think? Let me know. If you're confused right now things will become clear soon. Until then though - SK
